Peter Taylor
 

I have just been told that Peter Taylor died on the 24th July of pancreatic cancer. My second Flt Cdr on No 8 Sqn in Aden, 1965. Prior to that, among other things, a member of the 92 Sqn Blue Diamonds Hunter aeros team. Thereafter Harriers in several appointments, and a noteable ejection. Air Cdre as Director of RAF Public Relations. A lovely man: always full of incisive humour, and old school loyalty. Very sad,

Jindabyne, dare I assume yourself and Peter Taylor knew Al Mathie ? I ask out of curiosity as I was an army brat attending school in Khormaksar at that time and subsequently knew Al at our flying club.

Sorry to hear this. Worked with Peter at Key Publishing, very urbane, dry wit. I ran his ejection yarn in Today's Pilot magazine, and also his first Hunter solo story (no two-seaters in those days). I couldn't help but laugh at how he recalled his shock at seeing his Harrier cheerfully carrying on without him, to disappear over the horizon.........

My second Boss on 1(F) Squadron Harriers at Wittering. Absolutely top man in all respects with a cheeky sense of fun that I just loved. Saw him at the Pegasus "do" 2 years ago and he looked great with that infectious smile and ready wit.
You are a loss to the world PPW and I shall come with hordes of others to pay my respects in Stamford on August 14th. RIP Sir - you couldn't have done more.

Great Boss - took us to Belize in 75 - saved me from the wrath of the Staish at Wittering of the time - Laurence Alfred J**** - on several occasions.

Impressive leader - great pilot - and an inspiring Boss. Lovely sense of humour.

Shirley Bassey's sunshine has now gone from her life!!

My sincere condolences to his family - he was a good man.

When PPW was the Staish at Bruggen, we had a Mess Cabaret evening. 17 Sqn did a Morris Dancing skit and we dragged PPW up on stage to participate.When he arrived on stage, I exited stage left to collect some cricket gloves which I donned ostentatiously on stage, gathering some laughs from the audience. It was actually a wise move (as I knew it would be) as he spent the whole of that dance trying to whack me on the knuckles. He was a very fine man and an excellent Stn Cdr.

I knew Peter throughout my RAF career. He was Station Commander at Bruggen in my time. A great man and a sad loss.

Very sorry about your father Richard. I will be raising a glass or two with many others on the 14th.
I re-visited the Shirley Bassey clip, and wondered if anyone knows of the whereabouts of his TV appearance with Princess Anne?

Extremely sorry to hear about your dad Richard. For what it's worth, every (and I mean every) time I met him, either in the corridor at Key Publishing or out and about in Stamford he always made me laugh. I was always extremely rude to him, and he always gave it straight back. Lovely bloke.

One tends to forget that he was also an accomplished aerobatic pilot:
