RAF Suvla barracks
Excuse my indulgence but can anybody to help identify the location of this photo. Pictured is my 97yr old grandfather who is about to die of heart failure. This picture has been discovered with no notes or description. All I know is that he joined at least a year before the war, was a fitter on Spitfire, Mosquito and Liberator and left as a corporal on 1947.
Any gen gratefully received. His other ranks service number is 641 684. Thank you. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4a20c0ff4.jpeg |
A quick root around on-line and there may have been a Sulva Block at Uxbridge. Maybe a starter for you.....

Suvla Block, RAF Uxbridge
....
The Times (Hillingdon & Uxbridge version, that is) reported on a ceremony held on 31 March 2010, to mark the closure of RAF Uxbridge. https://www.hillingdontimes.co.uk/ne...-raf-uxbridge/ Within the text is mentioned "... an IRA bomb attack on the Suvla accommodation block in January 1981. Fortunately, no-one was killed in the blast." A substantial article on this historic station that was established in 1915, is on Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Uxbridge My Dad spent a while in the hospital in 1927. Probably named for Suvla Bay - Gallipoli .... Chris Kebab deserves the cigar. WWW - Salute to your Grandfather please. LFH .......... |
You could apply for a copy of his service records.... they cost £30 though. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records
