Israel beat them to it...

Israel with F-35i and F-38B with USMC in A/Stan

Despite my criticisms of the program[s], it is a positive that it is it being employed in it's innate environment...

It is not what this aircraft was created for. Dropping expensive munitions on impoverished peasants could be done more effectively by an A-10 or something even simpler.

You forget that A/Stan is the live bombing range where the USMC will test the F-35B and note its strengths and weaknesses.

Plus you can't lob an A-10 off a carrier
More broadly, it is wrong to see Afghanistan as the modern day equivalent of the Spanish civil war, because there is no learning taking place. The conflict has been going on so long we are getting new troops that were born after the war began, yet nothing changes. The US is still bombing peasants at huge expense ( $100/gallon delivered jet fuel just a minor factor ) and remains surprised they are not loved. |
