Dudley Sutton aka Tinker Dill-Lovejoy

Dudley Sutton has passed away aged 85.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-45537998. Was an RAF mechanic early in his life. Wonder if that was National Service? RIP sir.

Apparently not National Service. In 1993 Greenhill Books published "High Flyers" in which a range of well-known people wrote about their RAF service. Dudley Sutton joined in 1951, trained as an engine mechanic and served at Thorney Island with 2 ANS. He says that he was diagnosed with Manic Depression and was "allowed to by myself out" having accrued "RAF experience of four years service in the ranks, four years' amateur drama, four years of reading and dreaming.and reciting Shakespeare in the company of Wellington bombers at maximum revs".

Saw him on a 14 Bus a few years ago around Brompton Hospital area and again when walking between the Fulham Rd and the Kings Road. Guess he must have lived in the area . Strangely enough my wife said she met him a few times in the Earls Court area when she was at parties in the mid 60's/ 1970's.

I think his best performance was as Detective Chief Inspector Guscott in "Colvil & Soames" on BBC Radio 4 Extra. In his younger days he always seemed to play a nasty baddie
