Headline is a bit grandiose - as the article states the full cost will be less than £100m. In terms of maritime dredging and construction costs not so much a new port as a refurbished and larger jetty. |
Wouldn’t be a bad strategic military move, either. Especially if it doesn’t come from the defence budget. |
The port at Christmas Island (London?) was extended for far less than that, unless of course you counted in the capital cost of all the plant and vehicles dumped therein to construct the breakwaters....

Surely if the goods are only transiting through the EU they can use the TIR Convention, which only requires customs checks at the destination?

More hysterical scaremongering.
Cyprus only joined the EU recently and there were no problems before that so why should there be in future? Anyway the small port already at Akrotiri could be expanded quite cheaply. |
