Osprey starts grass fire

Presumably an inevitability of having the engine efflux at the back of the rotating nacelles?

I was quite worried at first, thinking the worst had befallen Hawker's pre-war naval fighter!

Thankfully, the full range of military activity has never caused a fire, on this or any other range, in the past.

At least hopefully not while trying to insert Hereford's best discreetly after dark...

It makes for a dandy diversion....all the Oppos are busy putting out the fire whilst the Lads sneak off elsewhere.

Mogwi 10th Jun 2018 07:36

One hell of a fire-fight!

MightyGem 10th Jun 2018 21:01

The cause of the fire was attributed to a down draft from an American Osprey helicopter
Hmmm...I once used the downdraft of a Gazelle to put out a grass fire in Canada.

Lonewolf_50 11th Jun 2018 00:24

Beyond the fact that an Osprey isn't a helicopter ... ;)

pr00ne 11th Jun 2018 00:27

..and in no way is anything an Osprey does in anyway shape or form "discrete..."

I once watched someone try to do that with a Squirrel... He spent ten minutes making it much bigger then ran away.

Well, to be strictly accurate most of what an Osprey does is discrete, but perhaps not necessarily that discreet!

Sorry, coat time...

I guess it just sometimes thinks it is - which is perhaps what got it into trouble on this occasion!

It's quite a feat to start a grass fire in Wales.

To be fair, it probably depends on the height of the grass and severity of the fire. It worked ok for me.

Taken out of context this is an appalling thing to admit seeing.
