Help required, please.
I'm looking to help a friend who is researching his late fathers service record post 1945. He has a posting listed as "RAF WORL (NE)".
Anyone any ideas, please. TIA Paul M |
Oh, there’s a conundrum! W.O.R.L. might help trigger a memory cell, but Google certainly doesn’t want to Play! Paging Danny42C who might have a clue, having possibly served in the NE in that period. |
"WORL ?" - well, the big Transit Camp in Bombay where all incomers and outgoers were held prior to embarkation or on arrival in India in WWII was "Worli". Would that fit the circumstances ?
"NE ?" Doesn' t ring a bell. Present Bangladesh was the former "North East Frontier Province" of British India. Two thousand miles East of Bombay, though. Best I can do. Enjoy the trip, MPN11 - but 40 (C) ? ... "It ain't half hot here, Mum" (to coin a phrase) |
More clues, please, kaitakbowler. Any before/after entries? What Branch/Trade/rank? |
Danny, forecast is 42-44, but unlike your experiences it’s DRY heat in Phoenix. Quite nice, really, provided you don’t grab bits of the car (like seat-belt buckles) that have been sitting in the sun for a whlle. ... But then you would remember that aspect with the VV, I’m sure! |
Was the record typed or handwritten, i.e. is there a chance that the handwriting isn't clear? Any chance of a photo?

...........
I suggest 'Non Effective' might apply to a posting to RAF Worli Transit Camp ? btw - There is an IWM collection of 'So this is India - 1945' documentary movies - https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/i...ect/1060028872 The wonderful descriptions of the contents of the five reels of film are well worth reading even if the pictures are not readily available. Worli is mentioned several times. There is considerable other closely associated stuff mentioned if you scroll on down. .... LFH ... |
Thanks guys, I've asked for more info, will update when he gets back to me. Time zones in play here.

Just a thought. Worl is a place quite close to RAF Locking. I wonder if this was an outstation or satellite?
ACW |
I seem to remember there being teams involved with schools liaison and recruitment, which were organised regionally. With a regional liaison officer (RLO) in charge, perhaps there was a warrant officer regional liaison (WORL), in this case for the North East region. |
