There was a time when Wroughton held an Open Day - I recall taking my two young sons there and viewing such items as the Connie and explaining why it was nicknamed 'Banana boat'. Mind you, said sons are now 45 & 40yrs old...

Lyneham - must have go to the same show I did - my two elder sons are similar ages to yours. I went to a Large Model Association show there too and I think they opened the hangar for that as well

Maybe we should engage in a "dialogue" to get it opened ???

Sorry To disappoint Dougie, I think there may be one of those at Duxford. One of the early Airfix models I made.
The current Mrs Dragartist did her nursing training at Huntingdon County, before Hinchingbrooke. Her best mate joined the RAF and completed her training at Ely. Before we had the kids and being close by she used to spend the weekends with us. Each time she brought a different soldier boy or airman. One airman even worked for my dad when he was on 5 at Binbrook. She still answers to the name yo yo knickers over 40 years on.

Been to Wroughton a few times, their open days were really good with classic bus services between all the Hangers they opened up. Best visit was a private tour with my sports car club. On that we toured their restoration workshops as well as the Hangers.
Under restoration when we visited was a WW2 German Portable Radar that was liberated from the Channel Islands. Stripping back the paint on the dish revealed the alloy manufacturers logo complete with swastika imprinted in the alloy.

I do often think that they could have closed Wroughton and the like and shifted the collection into storage at the wasted facilities at St Athans, I realise they are going to become a car factory now, but modern new built hangarage with the space to spare and built to be as cost effective as a building of that size can be must in the long run have been cheaper to run, maintain and allowed for future expansion.
