UK TACAN route network?

Has anyone heard anything about plans to possibly decommission the UK TACAN route network? I've heard a few whispered rumours but not seen anything in writing.

We have a TACAN route network?

Seriously, who would even notice?

Tend to agree with Bob here; if there is one ahead dial it in - if not carry on and do something else!

No warmer feeling than low level aborting in to cloud as a student in a Tucano learning low level and seeing the TACAN needle locking on. Follow me home arrow!

That doesn't really have anything to do with the topic - but since when has that applied to Prune threads! The Tucano must be one of the few ac to rely on TACAN only - and that doesn't get high enough for the TACAN routes anyway.

Several TACAN routes connect with the European OAT routes and can be pretty handy when flight planning for French AARAs, for example.

Current structure is in the UK IAIP section ENR 6.3.5.1.

Also the USAF uses TB7 from MAM to QN9 as a 'refueler' route.

I really hope that the UK won't throw these routes away!

Airpolice - You might want to ask a T1 driver when he last used a TACAN route - if he even knows what one is. BEagle is right about their use in flight planning - but only to get the flight plan 'in' - once airborne I can't remember ever flying the actual route - it's all DCT. Great when they were straight lines between Colt, MC6, Ypenburg and Llarbruch.

Heavily used by the cousins in their airlifters.

Flew back from Europe just the other week via NAVPI and MAM - noting that MAM has been u/s for a while.
