Suffolk, approx 08:35 (BST) Any takers ?

XTEC 4th Oct 2017 08:05

Something happening at STN, I am close by and military jet(s) can be heard overhead

XTEC 4th Oct 2017 08:08

All quiet now overhead, not much showing on Flight Radar in to STN

ICM 4th Oct 2017 08:12

Just seen a Tweet from Stowmarket Police confirming it was a military aircraft but no further detail.

XTEC 4th Oct 2017 08:12

FR14 & FR1393 were in a holding pattern, now looks like on approach.

Perhaps I was a little too subtle ;)

Apparently a bomb threat made in Lithuania but they let it take off anyway? Seems a little odd.

t7a 4th Oct 2017 10:46

Sonic boom certainly shook the house!

Tankertrashnav 4th Oct 2017 10:48

Why was it diverted from Luton to Stansted? Both are busy commercial airports in the same general area. No doubt there is a good reason, maybe someone can oblige?

99 Change Hands 4th Oct 2017 10:56

Stansted is designated to receive hijacked aircraft. Nice little ba-boom heard here this morning and the echo rang around the local area for a surprising length of time.

Small Cog and 99 - thanks for the info :ok:

bobward 4th Oct 2017 15:29

Judging by the way Ryanair has been cancelling flights, maybe they just wanted to see one in the flesh?

The AvgasDinosaur 4th Oct 2017 15:49

I think you'll find STN has a remote parking stand that cannot be seen clearly from ground level outside the fence. The press and TV are therefore thwarted in their mission to spread alarm and fear throughout the nation. Those who have a positive role in these matters can get on with it without interruption.
A lesson learnt the hard way at Munich many years ago .
