Airmen found dead @ RAF Feltwell

Airman found dead at Norfolk RAF base | Anglia - ITV News

RIP

A US airman has been found dead at a base in Norfolk.

A spokesman for the 48th Fighter Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath, said the serviceman was found "unconscious in their work space" at RAF Feltwell, near Thetford.

They have been named as Staff Sgt Ivone Rios, a cyber transport systems maintainer.

Emergency crews tried to revive the airman but were unable. The US Airforce said the cause of death was unknown but an investigation was being carried out.

(My italics throughout)

What the hell sort of nonsensical English is this? Is ITV unable or unwilling to use the pronouns he or his any more?

The confusion arises because the USAF calls both men and women airmen, and the unusual name doesn't help.

TTN,

I would suggest that this lack of accuracy/disregard for the English language and grammar is widespread and does not just apply here. It is seen throughout all modern media (electronic and paper)!

Thoughts with those involved in this tradgedy!

Bill.

Oh the irony! ;)

I don't think it's a lack of accuracy - its more the fashionable thing to do, as by removing 'he' and 'she' from the text you reduce the chance of offending those who want to remove gender from the human race. I'm not making this sh*t up.

Unfortunately this is true. Having spent the last 27 years living in countries where gender is part of the language (Italy and Germany) I sometimes regret that my mother tongue is gender neutral.

I would like to say, RIP.

In which case in my above post, substitute "she/her" for "he/his". My point is still valid.
