According to their website

https://www.mrhq.co.uk/

free for ex-service personnel....

but I'd be VERY careful in giving much information to them .... the military system already has an excellent resettlement organisation ... why use one that charges employers ??? someone trying to make a fast buck ???

Having been out of the military for 6 years, I am a little dubious about most aspects of 'transition support' whether commercial or military.

Regardless of qualifications or experience, junior ranks are often punted to the construction or driving jobs, SNCO's towards facilities management or lock repairs, and anything else with management in the title is normally routed at the officers.

You might have different experiences, and that's great; but that's my experience of the system.

A quick flick through their website and Companies House - who are these people? Any one care to offer up a few names (faces) - always suspicious when a company shields itself in the manner this outfit is, seemingly, doing?

Repeat, it was a very quick search...the sleuths amongst us may do better?

Appears to be ex army Captain who set up a recruitment business and is now expanding. Not sure how the current resettlement provider will react. Looks like they only started in July. You never know, they may be of more assistance to ex forces where the current system focuses on leavers. As for a fee, I'm not sure? I have come across agencies who charge but try to avoid them.

Search: Peter Wilson Military and see for yourself.

I don't know if they address the following problem with a perspective employer or as in the CTW teach leavers civi speak.

We had a retiring WO MTO or MTSS applying for a job on a unit but for a contractor. His CV was a resume of his service history - Q this, Form that, etc. For a start my contractor was looking for a worker not a manager. The worker needed civilian qualifications not service experience.

That man needed to get his experience ratified through civilian exams, to have his As translated in to English.

From what I hear that is still part of the problem today. Talking to friends that have made the leap, along with family members in the recruiting field, the main problem with transition seems to have 3 components:

1. Military types don't understand themselves. So why should a recruiter? As MGD noted, all the magazines funnel us into stereotypes based on rank and our position in a hierarchy. Individuals need to understand their worth as an individual based on qualifications and experience and then be prepared to leverage it to best effect and not undersell it (equally don't over-egg it and be prepared to start in the middle and work up in your new field).

2. Having failed to understand our worth and what we can do, we have no idea of how to translate it to civi speak. It's great that you can lead small team operations or that you were the ISR planner for NATO in southern Afghanistan. So what does that mean to me and my bottom line?

3. When you've got a new role, don't cling on to everything from your old role. Take the good bits, ditch the war stories, ability to drink your own body weight in German beer at happy hour and learn the new language of civilian life.

Where any recruiting firm specialising in transition adds value is in addressing these points. If all it does is point you towards courses and manage an already drafted CV, you've got to question if it is adding value to the transition process, especially if charging a fee,
