A10 flypast
Just this minute seen 8 A10's fly over my house... probably inbound to Lakenheath. Nice to see them back in East Anglia again.

Me too. Being from Naarfolk, I could count them on the fingers of one hand.
|
They can fly over my house and the airfield where I work anytime; just so long as you saw 'more than one'!

Hardly interesting. Litening pod.... Northrop Grumman's widely fielded AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING system is a combat proven, self-contained, multi-sensor targeting and surveillance system. ... LITENING targeting pod features include: Full 1K FLIR and CCD, the highest resolution available in any fielded targeting pod. |
Ah see, it's made to look like a Litening Pod but it actually contains a golf bag.

Litening AT & Sniper XR have been cleared on the A-10 for a few years now.
The golf bags are on the port side, Chris - Litening to starboard. |
Not having seen an A10 for some tears and then only in the air, I did not realise how big this aeroplane is. Then recently I was commissioned to build a 32nd scale model of the beast for a friend. I will be glad to get it finished and delivered as it has completely taken over my man cave.
Have since googled up some photos. The one with the Avenger gun displayed alongside a Volkswagen might have given me a clue! |
A good advert for why the A-10 is such a versatile CAS platform, JDAM X 2, Paveway X 2, LAU-10 X 1, AGM-65 X 1, Litening Targeting Pod, a pair of AIM-9s, three unused weapons stations and that monstrous GAU-8, which judging by the crud under the fuselage has seen quite a bit of recent use on this jet!

Following on from the A10's last week, today we have had the BoB memorial flight go past and now the Red Arrows have just flown over my garden, trying to get into formation, don't know where they are displaying but I'd guess Mildenhall or Lakenheath down the road.
