Sidewinder

More help needed.
I'm looking to acquire the 'body of a sidewinder AIM 9.
The body is in four sections. Does anyone know/ have any leads or contacts or even the item in question anywhere as a trophy as such?

May sound an odd request, but seems normal for me!

Thanks in advance...

I also see the need for this type of accessory in Phoenix, even better with a hood mounted M61 Vulcan Gatling !!!

That is just gold.
Will never fly a fast jet - but always dreamed of pimping the Tartare family 4WD - green mesh seats and that diamond shaped grey insulation they have inside military aircraft - with appropriate external paintwork and markings.
Maverick is a bit much though.

I have 2 X AIM9L "pig-tails" but I am afraid that they have rather too much historical and emotional connection to let them go. I could send you some pics though.

I can see insurance companies having palpitations at the thought of people creating hi-speed versions of Boudicca's (Boadicea) chariots... :E

If you want to improvise a sidewinder, I'm reminded of a tale from the sixties: Members of an FAA Buccaneer sqn (801NAS?) aboard HMS Victorious wanted to convince any Soviet Spies who might be watching as the ship was about to transit the Suez Canal that their aircraft had sidewinders for self defence, which they certainly didn't have at the time. So they got hold of a number of industrial sized empty baked bean tins from the galley and welded them together, attached cardboard fins and painted the whole thing white. It was then mounted on one of the aircraft's wing pylons in full view of the shores for the duration of the transit... at least until one of the Commanders noticed it one day as he was on his way to lunch and ordered it removed!

The Buccs were finally wired for sidewinders by the 80s if not earlier. If those tins were full ones, would that not have counted as potentially rocket fuelled? Fairly explosive at least!

"What's that strange noise coming out of your stereo ?"

"Oh, it just means I have 'tone' on the vehicle ahead of us"

Obi wan we had the first L39's to arrive in the UK post USSR collapse and needless to say the spotters were out in force, as we were working on it outside and some distance from the fence we used tape to alter the registration on it to a Vatican one.. Often wondered how many recorded it as such :E

MELBOURNE had a story about transiting the Sewers to Queen Jubilee back in the day whenever when also ex bucking ear pilotes were onboard in various capacities. Anyhoo this photo below is the happy instance result of the 'one & only catapult' malfunction during RIMPAC 1973. Wettex 4 EVA! :}

Didn't some Sovietski submarine once sail past the Rock of Gibraltar with what looked like a pair of Atolls atop the conning tower?

Later assumed to be spook-bait, once the MPA force had recovered from the surprise of something prepared to surface and fire back?

Groundcrew-created spotter-bait at TWU one year during an 'At Home Day' included a spoof 'Sidewinder modification programme timetable' in one of the Hunter engineering offices through whose windows the little aluminium stepladder and camouflage waistcoat brigade would poke their lenses..:ok:
