Royal Marines take on a warship.

A good read and there's some Aviation content for the easily offended purists.

Nice story - but I don't see that the sniper had ought to do with it.

"approximately 500 7.62mm bullets had struck the Puma" and the thing kept going for a bit?!

I recall reading in an account shortly after the war that HMS Endurance's Wasp asked permission to engage the corvette with AS12s, but this was denied (as a youngster at the time, I was a voracious reader of post-Falklands literature). Any truth in that, or just another 'fog of war/spice it up' myth?

This intelligence had been gathered by a remarkable platform, HMS Endurance, known to many as Red Plum due to her ice patrol ship colours. Under the command of Captain Nick Barker RN, Endurance had been ordered to keep a military presence in the area. Sensibly, as she was unarmed, Endurance was to keep a low profile 60 miles out to sea from South Georgia, monitor Argentine communications and send back intelligence reports to the UK. Her popular and inventive commander had actually intended to close the range on the damaged Guerrico on the 3 April to finish the task started by the Royal Marines ashore by using her Wasp helicopters armed with AS.12 missiles, but Whitehall had other ideas, and demanded that self-preservation was the order of the day.

A classic, and testicular, performance by the Royals.

As were the subsequent SF Ops there at Endex.

BZ to all involved.
