In his obituary on 8 Feb, the Telegraph reported that Wg Cdr Ted Holloway made a non-stop flight from RAF Wyton to Aden on 24th October 1955 covering 3,327 nm in 7.45 hrs, an unofficial record at the time.
I have a 1000 odd hours in many Mks of Canberra with many different fuel fits but I don't know of any that could cover that range. Does anybody know how they did it? |
PR7 has very long legs

Aha, it was a PR7 was it. Did they have the three internal tanks (11,000), tip tanks (4000), bomb bay tank (2500) and internal wing tanks (6000): total 24,000. Even so, it was still a remarkable length of flight (I am assuming cruise climb, high tropopause, tailwind, and no reserves (nearby div available).
