Is it true?

This extract from a very recent FOI request states:

"The types of aircraft that have landed/taken off at/from Wattisham between 7 November 2015 and 6 November 2016 are listed below. Please note this list shows the aircraft types that have used Wattisham airfield at least once during these 12 months.

MOTOR GLIDER/SF25
PITTS SPECIAL

CH47 (Chinook)

Is there really an airworthy B-47 Stratojet doing the rounds?

Maybe it was a Bell 47 helicopter?

Good question re the Stratojet, but does anyone else think this question, and I guess it, or similar, is asked at most military airfields, is an entirely frivolous and unnecessary misuse of resources. Do they publish who has asked these questions?

I wonder if asking the question on PPrune of who has asked the question is an appropriate use of PPrune's resources?

No.

It's 30 years since a B-47 last flew.

Davef68 9th Feb 2017 22:32

There are no flying B47s - couldn't be a typo for b747 could it? :-)

STN Ramp Rat 10th Feb 2017 17:42

How about a typo for a B57 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin...B-57F_Canberra I have a feeling NASA 928 might have been about sometime.

what a complete waste of everyone's time responding to the FOI, hasn't the person who requested it got anything better to do? apparently not

Basil 10th Feb 2017 17:57

I'd say that the answer to a FoI request regarding a military airfield is "None of your business!"

heights good 10th Feb 2017 22:10

Just a thought...

2 points -

- the original FOI request could have been by someone buying land for housing nearby or a local farmer looking to open a small aerodrome or for a Combined Accommodation Assessment System (CAAS) appeal in the environmental section of the system. Just because you think it is a waste of time doesn't mean it is actually a waste of time!

- the FOI process is there for tax payers to have answers to questions that prior to the FOI Act was largely inaccessible. We (citizens of the UK) have a right in a democratic society to hold our elected representatives to account; that is the embodiment of democracy and a modern progressive society.

And for the record, most airfields have aircraft movements logged in a spreadsheet to would take very little time to analyse.

rolling20 11th Feb 2017 08:32

What luck! Myself and the wife are seeing a house 3 miles south of Wattisham on Monday. I had wondered about movements/ types, doesn't look too bad looking at that list.

STN Ramp Rat 11th Feb 2017 10:23

heights good ~ the issue is that these business are not resourced to answer the amount of stupid FOI requests that are made. I am a governor in a school and time and resource that could be spent on educating the children is spent answering FOI requests. in my view it is out democratically elected leaders that should be holding the government to account not the electorate. we have too much democracy in this country.

Typhoon or Hercules may be a bit noisier and the odd Chinook low level at 2 am
Night flying goes on a bit later these days then?
