So every time I watch the movie Highlander I see this Jaguar in what looks to be AB with a 2 tank/ECM and chaff/flares loadout flying close to hairy cows in the closing sequence. Seems to have been carefully orchestrated with the pan shot and the car speeding past.

So do we have any movie stars here ?

Re Local Hero, there was a request and possibility a Notam to avoid the film site. Despite this there were continuous incursions, so many, that they included it in.

So now the question becomes - who was flying the Jag T2 in 226 O.C.U. during the period April to August 1985 ?

The Jaguar sequences in Local Hero were flown by 226 OCU's American Exchange Officer, whose name sadly escapes me. He fielded a phone call from the Production Company who had to stop filming one day because of a pair of low flying Jaguars. They didn't complain, they asked them to come back as the Producer wanted to include them in the film! Their was never a Notam published, but it was a local avoid once the sequence had been filmed.

I was there - but it wasn't me. I don't remember the previous exchange officer's name, but I remember his last trip!

I was debriefing with the staish, when the first pass rattled the roofing felt. He (we) stormed out to see the jet, at what appeared to me to be eye level, coming across the airfield straight at us. Another impressive beat up followed. The staish demanded to know who the miscreant was and, when told, decreed that that was to be 'his last flight on my station!'

BN, that's the chap, I remember the incident well. A little Scottish Sqn Ldr performed a similar stunt on his last flight, Staish happened to be in the planning room at the time and expressed his displeasure at not being told it was going to happen and missing the fly past!! Happy days.

The film Brand New World also had a puma involved - some crazy plot with Ray Winstone, Guy Pearce and Emily Loyd. It was filmed on the IoM in the late 90s at the old airfield to the North. As I recall Sats P was the pilot and Dunc T was in the left hand seat, not sure who was down the back:-).

For Local Hero, the filming in the fishing village took place next door to Rosehearty Range at Pennen, hence the frequent jet noise. I guess the film crew decided that if you can't beat them......

Spanky was there 86-87 IIRC

David Hodges, Spanky replaced him. It was the chap before David Hodges who "did" Local Hero, and I still cant remember his name!

At that time, if you wanted to get a fast jet flypast in the Scottish Highlands you usually just had to wait for half an hour and one would come past (Frequently followed shortly after by another couple). Changed days, I spent a week walking in the West Highlands couple of years back and saw one Tornado.

As a budding 17 year old wannabe pilot I was fortunate to be the guest of 226 OCU on the 9th Dec 85.

My intro to the squadron and ejector seat briefing was by a USAF A10 exchange pilot whose name (iirc) was Capt Henniger.

This was a precursor to my flight in the Jag with OC 226OCU Wg Cmdr Jeffrey Morgan.

Remember it to this day and now as a TRE on the 737 and a 20 odd year career in commercial aviation to date its up there with my one of my best ever days.
