The Squadrons and Units of the Fleet Air Arm

I hope this doesn't transgress any forum rules (apologies if so, but I would like to point out that I have received no remuneration for the book, so this isn't a personal commercial advert, merely trying to push the word out for those interested!).

Latest from Air-Britain is 'The Squadrons and Units of the Fleet Air Arm' by Theo Ballance, yours truly and the late Ray Sturtivant is now out. I'm sure many out there will have copies of the 1984 and 1994 'The Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm'; this new title brings all of those histories bang up to date and in colour.

Thanks for the heads up. I have the earlier edition but welcome the chance to update.

And I can strongly recommend the Aviation Artwork of Local Hermanus Artist Derrick Dickens | This 'n That whose paintings of Fleet Air Arm aircraft richly deserve to be far better known.:ok:

The 1994 edition is frequently referred to in the Martian house, so an upgrade could well be in the offing.

Thanks guys. The book is based upon the earlier 1994 version but now much enlarged with the addition of the units (the likes of MARTSU, MDMF, AES, ADTU etc, to name but a few), hence the title change, and every unit has been thoroughly re-checked and amended with the benefit of 22 years of additional research and the current squadrons all brought right up to date. The addition of colour badges (with the exception of those that were never officially sanctioned which remain in mono) is the first time that every squadron badge has ever been printed in one publication and drawn by the same hand. Battle Honours are now THE most accurate version (the 'official' ones being widely acknowledged to be incorrect) and for the first time there are photographs of many of the airfields used around the world.

Well done Lee, it is indeed a superb piece of work and one that is destined to be well-thumbed in this household! A bit of a shame that my copy arrived damaged but hey ho, that's (some) courier's for you I suppose.

Lee Howard 22nd Dec 2016 17:21

Sorry to hear that Steve. Was it definitely the couriers that damaged it (i.e. it wasn't damaged stock that got sent unwittingly)?
