Also featured in today's Daily Telegraph....and, before anyone starts wondering, the bearded pard, together with one other in the associated photographs, is of course dark blue.:ok:

One wonders why the photo was it would seem taken in front of a USMC F35B not a UK one? The message would have been stronger with an obviously UK plane as the backdrop...

But at least it's got an RAF "squabbling bleeder's" name on it.....:)

Have they got a dog?

Roly 16th May 2016 18:51

Apparently. Its name is Rigger......

PhilipG,

Had the photo been taken in front of a UK jet, some 'Dear Points of View..' pedant would most likely have taken issue with the backdrop of a US sun shelter, or the presence of a US oxygen mask or .... well, something.

You get the drift but I guess there's no pleasing some.

FWIW, I consider it an excellent nod to the rich history of 6-foot as they re-emerge after their fallow few years. Some great photoshop artwork there. Top job!!

Not safe for a dog to be in the picture as Gibbo is a leckie.. ;)

Peter G-W 16th May 2016 22:59

"So, OC 617, tell us about the exciting, new F-35."
"Well, when I was on Harriers...."

Alber Ratman 17th May 2016 16:10

South Carolina too, so the pooch certainly wouldn't be safe. ;)

*'Dear Points of View..' pedant mode - ON*

Why is it, when the RAF website features a story like this, well almost all stories actually, they accompany it with paltry, piddly-arsed, tiny little pictures which are barely fit for viewing on a phone screen, let alone a wide screen PC monitor? When such stories or news items appear on the USAF or US Navy etc websites, they are almost invariably always accompanied by excellent, high resolution, downloadable images!
Just sayin' like...

edit: Through sheer dumb luck I stumbled across this link, which actually features hi-res images from the 617 Sqn article and others!

I see they couldn't even be bother to get the code right for Gibsons a/c......they've written A3-G instead of AJ-G

The formation of the original 617 Squadron was first put to Gibson on the 18th March, 1943.

In two months the Squadron personnel were selected, transferred, formed, trained, and the modified Lancaster B.lll Specials delivered, for the attack on the 16th/17th May 1943.

Two months. I can't see the F-35 version being operational in two years!!

Will be lucky if it's two decades from conception to service, let alone two years!

The F-35 Cancelled thread on here has been running now for 6 years
