What time of day was this as I understand that 2 Typhoons were scrambled to intercept and escort a bizjet into Cardiff today.

Archimedes 8th Apr 2016 20:49

Typhoons in a hurry - Oxford Mail

And on the BBC

Topcliffe Kid 8th Apr 2016 20:51

Heard in N. Bucks at about 1545, shook the building I was in.

This is what we know about a dramatic afternoon at Cardiff Airport which saw two RAF jets escort a plane in to land - Wales Online

Close: But no cigar.

Fantastic air to air photo, possibly taken from a Typhoon.

Was anyone else expecting a large submarine heading up the Thames?

Do Typhoon have VHF?

Do Typhoon have VHF?

'No its all done by thought transference'

rjtjrt 9th Apr 2016 08:16

Really, how does that work?

Dan Gerous 9th Apr 2016 09:13

Does the Typhoon make a louder boom than Concorde did? Used to hear Concorde all the time at St Athans, and I didn't think it was particularly loud.

Out Of Trim 9th Apr 2016 09:38

Typhoon pilots communicate by ESP (Extra Sensory Perception). The aircraft's comm's sense what the pilot is thinking and transmits his thoughts to a satellite and via this to a speech processor for de-cryption and thus to VHF within line of sight range.

So it operates on a really narrow bandwidth then Out of Trim

They make plenty enough noise just testing the reheat out over the Ribble estuary.... can hear it inside the house from miles away!

Thanks Oldmansquipper, Airpolice and Archimedes.

Turin, I'm off on a stroll to the Isis to look for periscopes...

Pretty impressive bizjet. :ugh:

tubby linton 9th Apr 2016 18:54

I am led to believe that the interception was poorly executed as one of the Typhoons provoked a TCAS RA from the target aircraft.

I would be amazed if any 'interception' did not provoke a TCAS RA. (That's probably what woke up the bizjet crew.:uhoh:)

tubby linton 9th Apr 2016 19:09

I would guess Fitter that you are not a pilot as your post shows no understanding of the event. They are not meant to provoke a crew into an RA, and any sudden descent or climb may be incorrectly interpreted as a hostile act, with fatal consequences.
