SR-71 in Norway - 1981

That was a great read, Chopper. Thanks for the post!
|
Great pics too, especially the Blackbird with F4s and F14s.

I was on 543 Valiants in the early sixties and we flew (relatively) regularly over the Kola Peninsular albeit at c50,000 ft/Mach 0.75 doing exactly the same sort of thing.

Interesting read CHOPPER2004. Here are more details of the people mentioned:
PILOTS Aircrew# Date of conversion 321 15Sept1977 Maj Bredette C Thomas 368 19 Nov1980 Maj Jerald Glasser 343 21Dec 1978 Capt Richard Young 430 4 Dec 1985 Maj Daniel House RSO's 323 22Sept 1977 Capt Jay Reid 317 18Dec 1980 Capt David M Hornbaker 336 16June 1978 Capt Edgar Bethart 307 21April 1976 Capt John G Morgan 431 22Jan 1986 Blair L Bozek I can't believe that the CIA Head at Inserlik chose to order Garry Powers to fly on a route which ran very close to Moscow on "May Day" and even ignored Sqd Ldr Robbie Robinson's concerns. When powers failed to recover to Bono, I'll bet there was much "egg on face"!! |
Didn't one of the SR pilots say something like, "You ain't been lost until you've been lost at mach 3." Or similar!
