A question for 1435 flt
Queen Mary 2 will be passing the Falklands on 9th Feb in international waters. Fancy paying us a visit?
If so please let me know and I will coordinate. Thx. |
You may rest assured that you will get a visit, but it will not be organised on PPRuNe. They guys at Mare Harbour will be in touch with QM. It will be a great opportunity.
|
Courtney,
Thank you. We have two Command QFIs on this ship who are looking forward to it! N |
Ops there will certainly have the ship on their plot, Navaleye, and everything that can fly or float will want their picture taken with her. I would imagine there will be plenty of visits, official or otherwise, for as long as she's within range or until they're told to stop. If it were the old Phantom days, the speed rakes would have been loaded with toilet rolls!
|
Or sweets, for dropping for the children in the settlements!
|
Request staying below 760kts on first pass.
|
More detail
Navaleye - have PM'd you.
|
Just had lunch with Heinz and Steve. Hoping 1435 flight can put a foot through the door as we go bye. The two QFIs promise not to bite.
|
QFIs bite? Should we be scared? Or maybe I'm thinking of this too late.
|
Position update:
QM2 will be passing 80 Miles west of the Falklands on Tuesday. Not sure what time yet. Will advise. |
Tuesday? Oh, no. That's their day off.
|
Don't tell Buenos Aires.
|
QM2 will pass 46 miles west of West Falkand at 0800z. Suggest 1500z visit.
|
Steve's a Buccaneer man so he's seen and done it all before! They'll need to be low and fast to impress him. Anything above 50 feet is pussy!
Bloggs:\ |
I thought 100ft was the minimum height. OC 1435 flt might have a few agricultural flying words about that. Unless, of course he's in one! :ok::D
|
Did it happen then? Video evidence would be great (although I appreciate sending it from mid-Atlantic could be expensive)!
|
I'd settle for a few pictures....:ok::ok::ok:
Hope it was low and loud...... |
Dont know yet only 8.30 local. GMT-3. If anything will happens it will prolly be this afternoon.
Weather is clear, slightly hazy, no low cloud. Wind from south, gusting 30 kts. |

Yes please, but also keeping an eye on the ship's bridge webcam, although picture currently not that great. I note that there is very modestly no mention of the nature of the military lectures concerned, and also had to smile when I saw that she would be entering the Beagle (sic!) Channel.:ok: Jack |
Weather is clear, slightly hazy, no low cloud. Wind from south, gusting 30 kts. Apologies for jumping the gun - thought the date originally notified was the 8th. |
Are there any icebergs around :hmm:
|
What on earth is a 'Command QFI'?
|
Like a Command IRE, but with more trimming and slightly scruffy instrument approaches.
|
No show today, but with a force 8 gale I doubt anyone would have made it on deck to see it.
Seen a couple of whales but no icebergs. Ushiaia tomorrow. Home port of the General Belgrano. I shall resist the temptation to goad them with my HMS Conqueror T-shirt :p |
Yeah, Navaleye. Gusting 45 kts across the runway earlier today.
|
No excuse for HMS Clyde not to see the flagship of the British merchant marine.
2 out of 10. See me. |
Shame she's not actually registered in Britain.
|

Good thinking, Batman, especially since I see that ARA ISLAS MALVINAS is currently there - all unarmed 82 metres of her.....:ok: Jack |
Bermuda and all British Overseas Territories are all part of the UK Registry and are entitled to fly the Red or Blue ensign as appropriate.
|
Shame she's not actually registered in Britain. We don't want any "Clarkson" moments Navaleye! |
I'm doing my best not to cause any diplomatic incidents. I will pretend to be American when I go ashore. Carnival Corporation is dual listed in London and NYSE.
|
Union Jack
Ex Islas Malvinas is 150 yds off our starboard side and is painted white and clearly now a coast guard vessel. |
I think you have there one Mantilla class CG OPV and one Neftegaz Class Auxiliary ship (the Islas Malvinas).
However, enjoy the Tierra del Fuego National Park. The trekking is hard but it is really a beautiful place. Regards! |
Thank you very much, Navaleye - Interesting to note she's still shown on AIS as ARA, but perhaps they quickly painted ship when they saw QM2 coming:D - if that's not lèse majesté....:=
Jack |
Marcantillian,
It's a stunningly beautiful place. Quite breathtaking. Got to see it to believe it. Best regards, Navaleye |
A couple of photos, perhaps?
|
|
What on earth is a 'Command QFI'? |
'Nuther,
As you have obviously guessed, I have no idea. |

Is it possible Heinz made the qualification up so as to create an impression in the bar? |
