I would hope that Major gave you more to study than RSR alone :) (I'm sure he/she did)

But really there was already a wealth of info about the PACT/NATO front out there already.

Board wargames were pretty big in the 70's and 80's and the ones dealing with possible WW3 were pretty common. Some of the designer notes from those games should have been classified :)

Publisher SPI was prevalent with a whole range of games from the Tactical (Mech War '77, CityFight) through Operational (NATO Division Commander, Central Front series) and Strategic (NATO, Next War).

Naval Warfare got a fair treatment as well, Harpoon and Task Force for example.

In fact Clancy used Larry Bond's boardgame Harpoon as a source for Hunt for Red October.

Lastly, just in case there any other sad cases out there here is SPI's infomercial from the 70's

Hardly surprising as his first three volumes were sponsored or something by the Naval Instute.Naval Institute Press | U.S. Naval Institute

USG - United States Government ?

I am interested in why they would want to question him about RSR.

From what I recall there was nothing in that book that Ivan did not already know, and to be frank the scenario was straight out of WW3 Wargame 101.

Make a good film though.

The Russians are very keen on unconventional warfare, I suspect they would aim to achieve their objectives without Nato responding.

The Ukrainain invasion being a example.
