Is'nt the Air Marshal's shoulder rank badge "upside down" ??

That must be a real challenge when dressing in the morning. Just realised that all my ranks where symmetrical. Thank God for that, otherwise I'm sure I would have done the same - either by mistake or not actually knowing which way up it was supposed to go.

As for blaming the ADC, the senior bloke should be able to put his underpants on the right way round without his flunkie.

I'm only guessing here but is it.......

Apart from the blind RAF chap, the booty is in shirt sleeve order while the AM has sleeves down.

I suspect it may behind his cap badge as that seems to be the normal RM poppy-place.

Roadster, the Bootnecks as a general rule never do long sleeve order at any time of the year.

Reminds me of the time, many years ago, when my then fiancee and I were invited to the wedding reception of the son of one of her (rather older) work colleagues.

[The work colleague was divorced from the groom's father, who had hitched himself to a younger model, and she was not consequently seated on top table but instead relegated to a remote corner, together with my fiancee and me, of the vast hangar of a reception room at the Stansted Hilton. The whole hotel was a ****hole. The food was dreadful and my fiancee's friend rapidly got pissed as the evening went on. But no matter....]

The groom was an RM lance corporal and had invited several troops of his mates to support him in celebrating his nuptials.

Things got out of hand rapidly after the speeches. The groom divested himself of his shirt and began dancing on the long trestle tables with all and any ladies nearby to the accompaniment of ear-bleeding "music" and the raucous encouragement of his mates. His newly-wedded wife was left to view the proceedings somewhat sourly from across the room.

It was when the cans of Holsten started flying that my wife and I decided to give it best early doors and retreat to our room down the corridor on the ground floor. The room we had been allocated was wedged between the lift shaft on one side and a laundry on the other. Quiet it was not. And soon to become somewhat noisier......

At this point you need to know that the day of the reception was the very same day that an aircraft had landed at Stansted under coercion exercised by a bunch of Afghan dissidents. These desperados had been removed from the aircraft at the remote stand and herded into a section of the Stansted Hilton at gunpoint by Essex Constabulary's finest. The hotel was essentially in lock-down, surrounded by every conceivable type of riot control vehicle.

Now, I don't know who started it but a riot duly ensued up and down the soulless corridors of the hotel. At least a score of frustrated Afghans against maybe rather more boozed up bootnecks, with lots of coppers somewhere in the middle.

I don't need to tell you who won.

But everything was nicely quiet and peaceful when we checked out the following morning....

The great advantage of being a plt off [for those us us who had that experience] is that the rank braid was almost invisible anyway, and either way up worked ...

... and if I had progressed beyond 1*, I assume my batman would have ensured all was correct anyway.

One also wonders if anyone got the obvious and got a photo of the pongoes visible documents, doesn't say much about the intelligence part of the place, it's supposed to gather it, not disseminate it.
