F16 departs controlled flight

Interesting short video

Interesting video, thanks. However, did my eyes deceive me. or was the good major wearing an RAF style pilot's wings badge?

MPN11 23rd Aug 2015 09:30

Or Canadian, given the arm patch? ;)

What got me was the mettle of the chap talking.
Made it sound like just another day in the office, which to him it probably just was.

Indeed, and it was clearly explained. I had a tour on the little jet and it was a treat to fly; but then I never flew it with such a load, so my assaults on the limiters never got me into trouble.

There was a Maple leaf roundel near the laptop...

It all points to a nanook. He may have been on exchange.

Looks like a Squadron Leader stripes. Some RCAF seem to have broader bands than we would.

Obviously Canadian! 416 Sqn- City of Oshawa Lynx Squadron. :ok::)
Note also the 441 Sqn patch above desktop, in addition to things mentioned above.
Seriously- reminds me of "unload for control" a similar but longer film we had to watch in F4 days.

McDuff 25th Aug 2015 17:16

That was how you recovered from the out-of-control situation with the F16. However, because the flight control system is constantly trying to unload, but failing because of the shielding by the mainplane, you have to pitch up first using Manual Pitch Override, then pitch down; you repeat this, trying to rock the aircraft out of the mode. It works pretty well, I understand.

But why the right Beta and subsequent right yaw departure with a left wing heavy asymmetry...?
