Tornado into Leeds/Bradford today

Whilst out walking today, I heard an uncharacteristic noise in the sky above Ilkley. Nice to see the Tornado on approach into LBA. Judging by the noise in the distance, it did a touch and go. Why would it have been at LBA? We don't see much activity in West Yorkshire.......just good to see that's all.

Just curious.

He was going to drop off his nav, who was going on a Jet 2 holiday to Tunisia, but the nav had 2nd thoughts at the last moment....

The variable noise constant speed swing wing machine might have struggled with the high altitude. Gods County airport is the highest in the UK at the dizzy heights of 681 ft

I rember having nice views of Walfdale and the Moors not too far from the airport, stood on the summit of Otley Chevin 53.893650N 1.692494W (or on the OS Map SE 203 442). If you look the other way and squinted a bit you can see the civvys take off from runway 32 or land on runway 14. The place gives you perspective how the airport is pearched on top of a hill with the network of vallies in the distance.
I was talking to a few guys from London, they were amazed by the place saying you don't have to go far to be out the city and in open countryside.

GR4Techie, it's not the highest airfield in the UK, I think you'll find Dunkeswell (EGTU) is The highest at a lofty 839 feet AMSL

Thought Compton Abbas, arguably the most beautiful UK airfield would beat Dunkeswell, but only 811 ft!
