Anyone know how many of these beasts the Soviets (oops, sorry, the Russians) have?

So what are they going to send over instead in order to give our Typhoon pilots a bit of flying time?

Makes me wonder if the Vulcan could have had a similar role in a modern day harassment/shepherd bombing role.

What was its loiter time, how many jdams or brimstone would fit in it???

I'm sure the RCS would be no worse than a Bear.

The Russians do have quite a few other big long range aircraft, and if it's just for the annoyance factor they could send an Il-76 on a jolly.

Probably Tu-160 Blackjacks. I don't think that they have been down off the UK for a while?

Yes they'd be great for our lads to practice on, but would they carry the ELINT fit which the Bears do? If they don't, the cash strapped Russians might find it uneconomical.

I guess its progress that they announced the incident and the suspension of flights ................

TASS, Sputnik, et al, are surprisingly forward in reporting Russian aircraft losses. The grounding is standard practice after any such incident, and the Bears will be back in the air again in no time.
