Army Sergeant arrested over wifes parachute failure

It would appear it was attempted murder of his wife, surely anyone with a bit of sense would know they would check the chute if she had died.

Army sergeant arrested after wife's parachute failed to open

How about you keep your gob shut as it is an ongoing criminal case?

You're a rude pri$k....

It's all over the news mate....

I didn't see any "Perry Mason" comments from the audience...

P6 Driver 11th May 2015 08:03

TBM-Legend,

Some people are naturally more articulate than others...
gijoe may not be so gifted.

Thomas coupling 11th May 2015 08:38

If true - one of the more imaginative ways of doing away with SWMBO! I wonder if he filmed it as well:=

ColinB 11th May 2015 09:53

An everyday story of service folk. I suppose if it was a soap the lady would leave the service with emotional stress and be given a farewell parachute payment.

No idea who you are and frankly I am glad I don't. Nut asked a simple question, this is a rumour forum, get over yourself and learn some manners.

Hempy 11th May 2015 14:23

In his defence, it's a bit presumptuous to say 'it would appear it was attempted murder' given the details of the story linked, regardless of the fact that he's been 'questioned'. Innocent until proven and all that. I'm assuming the assumption is that the chute was badly packed by the look of things, but 'attempted murder'?

Having said that, he was a tad harsh on Nutty.

Skeleton 11th May 2015 14:32

Hempy I am assuming Nut was quoting from the article he linked, which states the guy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Whatever, gijoes post was more than a little harsh.

Just saying :)

Fox3WheresMyBanana 11th May 2015 14:46

Missing slinks is definitely attempted murder. The question is, by whom?

Al R 11th May 2015 15:07

It isn't so much the act, but the nature of the act in this instance, that's (possibly) horrifying. Assuming they had kids together, who could possibly condemn someone with whom one once had a loving relationship, to a few seconds of mind numbing terror before eventual death? Killing someone you don't know in similar circumstances or killing someone 'humanely' (daft choice of word) who you do know is bad enough, but this has the worse of both worlds.

One of my old COs was convicted of killing his wife when he fell for a foreign translator. Weird, if not ageless, motivation.

Jayand 11th May 2015 15:31

I heard it was because he was having extra marital relationships, nothing serious, just sex no strings attached :}:}

teeteringhead 11th May 2015 15:32

And there was the guy recently who deliberately crashed his car on the motorway to kill his wife in the passenger seat.

Got life for murder (OK, I know you can't get anything else for murder) with a 17 year tariff AND seriously injured himself.

Details here.

Al R 11th May 2015 15:53

Teetering,

That was the weapon of choice and a similar MO that I referred to, also.

NutLoose 11th May 2015 16:52

One of our ex flying instructors did similar outside Leicester by ramming a tree, however, her injuries were not consistent, ie she was dead before she got in the car and he is serving time now.

I also feel I should respond to Gijoe's comments,

Sorry if my post offended you,

True I led the post with the title Sgt arrested etc, but that was simply informing the forum what the post was about and what the linked news article was saying.

In the text body I stated

"It would appear it was attempted murder of his wife"

I never stated that he was the guilty party of the heinous crime, simply his wife was involved and that from the press release it would appear to have been attempted murder by Whoever carried it out..

But I am sorry if you feel aggrieved at my post, I was simply informing people of what the press had said, please do not chute the messenger.

barnstormer1968 11th May 2015 17:15

He pay.
There is a lot already in the public domain, and an incorrectly packed chute isn't the issue.

It's funny but many posters here are familiar with chutes. The police are less familiar and may have been happy it was an accident if it wasn't for fellow chute club members pointing stuff out.

chute the messenger.
Boom Boom! Very good Nutty!:ok:

You've got nothing to apologise for Nutloose. gijoe's response was bang out of order, makes one wonder whether he perhaps has some personal connection?

Apparently when she was falling, she looked over and saw a guy going past her straight up into the air. "Do you know anything about parachutes?" she shouted. "No" came the reply, "do you know anything about gas barbecues."

Police wouldn't normally be called to at accident like this although if it had been fatal they would have attended. Their involvement would only have started when someone from the parachute club looked at the kit and thought that it was suspicious which I presume would have been something to do with the way the reserve looked when the victim landed.

I have heard plenty of stories from fellow skydivers about incorrectly rigged main canopies which suggest that a problem with the slinks on this particular rig would not have been enough on its own to suggest sabotage. I therefore think there must have been an obvious problem with the stowage or rigging of the reserve as well as the main. Double mals do happen but they are quite rare.
