Michael Peart scam?

I am posting here based on the email content.

I received an email from David Holliday WgCdr email David.Lapiai soliciting money for a cancer charity in Klaipeda. He is doing a 10k run next month in honour of his ambassador in Latvia in 1992-94.

The web site link also cites Rotary Charities. Does anyone know a David Holliday ex-air attache to Latvia?

PN,

Interesting - I got one of those this morning. Instantly blocked and deleted permanently. Could it be a PPrune email address security leak?

The Village Voice

Wg Cdr David Holliday joined the British Royal Air Force in 1961. He trained as a pilot and his first operational tour from 1964 to 1968 was spent flying Victor nuclear bombers carrying the American Blue Steel stand-off missile. His Cold War targets were in the Baltic States, Belarus and Ukraine. In 1968 the British nuclear deterrent was handed over to the Royal Navy and the Blue Steel fleet was disbanded. After a tour as a flying instructor David returned to Victors, but this time in the Air-to Air refuelling role, again as an instructor. This was followed by a tour in Moscow as an assistant Air Attaché (74-77). In 1979 he was posted to France to be the Strike Command liaison officer with the French Air Defence Command. The next ten years was spent in staff appointments in Human Intelligence. David’s last tour (92-94) was as the first British Defence Attaché in Vilnius after Lithuania regained its independence. He retired in 1994 and remained in Lithuania with his wife Migle, who he married in 1993.

So a lot that looks valid except for the email address. If it is a pprune leak then ....

If it is genuine better he had launched it here as well.

For the record whenever I get an unexpected email regardless of from whom I do not do a Google search I delete it permanently.

He lives in the village of Lapiai (top left photo), so the email address seems genuine.

Thanks ORAC, usually I am with ACW just this time the wg cdr caught my eye. Other than that "friends" when you don't know him from Adam is a classic.

ORAC 19th Apr 2015 11:57

The run is also being done by the Ambassador's son, Christopher Peart - see here. News report in Western Gazette.

Pontius Navigator 19th Apr 2015 12:06

ORAC, just told Mrs PN, 'oh yes, wasn't he the one who sorted out the Russians before the Queen' s visit.'

Christopher was mentioned in the original email.

I Rx'd the same e-mail, so maybe the PPRuNe e-mail address list was harvested.

Tankertrashnav 20th Apr 2015 08:30

I knew Dave Holliday when he was at Marham - I remember chatting to him about learning Russian - which I did at uni many years later.

Funny if this is an email harvest that we didnt all get it. Anyway, I am very selective about charity giving - I support two local ones, and the rest I ignore, no matter how deserving

Pontius Navigator 20th Apr 2015 09:46

I pointed him at this thread but no response.

David Holliday, Cranwell 84 entry Russian speaker. Bona fide chap who was a friend of the deceased from whom I've heard separately on this topic.

David Holliday is one of my best friends. He is totally genuine.

Pontius Navigator 23rd Apr 2015 19:59

Pontiflex, can you throw any light on the OP then as I had no response when I emailed David

If ever there was an idea for harvesting e-mails, a website like that would be it.
