LANGKAWI: Two Indonesian aircraft crashed after their wingtips grazed each other during aerobatic practices at the Langkawi air show today.
The pilots ejected safely and eyewitnesses reported seeing rescue teams taking away two of the pilots.
The Korean-built KT-1B turboprop aircraft of the Jupiter Aerobatic Team were part of a six-plane formation crossing over the adjoining international exhibition centre at 2.04pm when they two aircraft collided.
The two aircraft were then seen crashing outside the airport area, followed by fire and smoke, Bernama reported.
Photographs posted online by eyewitnesses showed that at least two of the pilots were safe.
A witness, Husin Ahmad, 25, said he saw one pilot ejecting from his aircraft and activating his parachute.
“I was having lunch, when suddenly saw the two planes colliding at the tail end, emitting smoke, before they crashed. One of the pilots managed to bail out with a parachute,” he said.
Another witness told Bernama that one of the jets crashed in Kedawang setting a house there ablaze. Firemen quickly doused the flames.
The Indonesian aerobatic team is one of five teams scheduled to put on aerial display at the four-day Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition, to be held from Tuesday. The other teams are from the United Arab Emirates, China, Thailand and Malaysia.

They took the headon verbally and missed the pass part.

What an unneccessary accident again.

How have the pilots fared since the ejection, does anyone know? Hope they are back in the air again soon.

That's a damned impressive photograph and well caught. Not only that but it will help show what happened.
