Display Line up - What would you pick?
I'm in the early stages of planning of an Air Show for September 2016. 4 hr display window. Really want to major on warbirds.
Any thoughts on a line up of real crowd pleasers? Please kick some ideas around on here, or DM me. Best wishes STANDTO |
Well the Vulcan will probably be out of it by then, that's a crowd pleaser.
Rumours have the b-29 coming over soon from the USA Rumour has a Mossie or maybe two visiting and operating alongside the BBMF, the Two Lancs showed they could make a profit doing it... That would be a show stopper :) |
Considering the WW1 Centenary currently going on are there any releavent aircraft (replicas) on the display circuit?
The Shuttleworth Collection folks may be worth a phone call. |
I think that the date of the air show gives a clue to the fact it needs to be current or preserved warbirds. :)
For me, BBMF, Sea Vixen, Vampire, Meatbox, F4, Vulc. etc. Oh for a Lightning, Javelin, Harrier, Valiant, Victor. Why didn't we preserve some of these for prosperity? |
I forgot to add, location and pitching it towards your planned audience expectation is paramount.
|
What would I pick...
http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/ba...y-emoticon.gif ...probably this as I'm finding airshows all a bit dreary these days. Bring back role demos... :ok: |
Why don't you get someone who knows all the warbird types, like Cliff Spink, and ask him? He can probably give you all the phone numbers and availabilities off the top of his head.

A little Hunter action?? . . . .
Delta Jets Ltd. - United Kingdom - Touchdown Aviation A fantastic display by this pilot . . . Diana Britten Aerobatics Couple more examples of worthy acts . . . Classic Jets GazelleSquadron:ok: Historic Aircraft Collection Limited OV-10B Bronco Demo Team Heritage Aviation | The Home of Miss Demeanour - Jonathon Whaley's Stunning Hunter Display Aircraft May or may not be of use, but have a look. :) |
"Preserve some of these for prosperity.."? Well you could become a millionaire by operating any of them....but only by starting as a billionaire.

My tuppence, based on a show I ran is pick a theme and a star. Then base the rest around that. Mine was Spitfires, got 12 airborne but also Tonkas, managed one's from each nation and also an unscheduled F3. Hard to say which was best though I think flying Spits put static Tonkas in the shade - sidelined the Lancaster too.

Delta Jets no longer exists, although some of the Hunters they owned still fly the Blue Diamonds jet is one of a pair that flies with the Mid Air Sqn Canberra PR.9. The Yellowjack Gnat is now based at North Weald with 2 other and they have an ex Indian single seat Gnat being rebuilt to fly.
As for big stuff Well a large 4 engine Growling aircraft is a possible by next year (fingers toes and other bits crossed. The aircraft that gave it a radar should be ready this year.... I do of course refer to the Shackleton at Coventry and Gannet AEW.3 at Saints V1 |
Tigre, EC725, NH-90, Patrulla Aspa, TeamApache Demo, F/A-18F Super Hornet, CV-22, F-15E. OA-10A, B-1B, B-52H, C-5M, C-17A, Thunderbirds, Blue Angels etc etc

For a real coup, what about inviting a couple of Russki TU95/142 bombers.
According to the British press, there's a few patrolling off the coast daily. Get em to pop in during one of their regular jaunts. Certainly a way to get some media coverage and advertising. You could even put them in the large aircraft area where the Nimrods used to park on such occasions. It might even be good for easing post glasnost tensions, that's if Vlad wants to ease tensions of course.:E |
Have your show during the week.
Advertise there will be free stuff for aircrew that rock up. Leave plenty of space for the Belgian Air Force to arrive :) |
For warbirds, try The Fighter Collection at Duxford: Bearcat, Wildcat, P-40E, P-40M, Spitfire V, Spitfire XIV, Sea Fury, Cosair, Staggerwing, Harvard, Gladiator, Nimrod (Hawker not HS!)... Think that's the current airworthy fleet to choose from...

How much money have you got?
|
Yes there is a Canberra PR and a couple of Hunters operated by Midair
See http://www.midair-squadron.com/ Rolls Royce operate a PR 19 Spit too. What about an A400 that will be pretty new on the circuit. |
An "out-of-the-box" thought .....
As it's in 2016, you may wish to link in with the 75th Anniversary of the Air Cadets which will be celebrated next year. Air Cadets have a strong presence on the Isle of Man, and could be part of a useful "air minded" work force! If you wish to pursue that line, PM me and I can provide an on-island contact. ;) |
