Afganistan: It's over! We lost, they won!

I'm referring of course to Afganistan's stunning last-ball victory yesterday over Scotland in International cricket with a four off the final delivery!

So did they have a pint afterwards, or does that team not imbibe due to Talibanophobia?

I'm shocked. What kind of sick joke is this? Are you trying to tell me that Scotland has a cricket team??

PPPuNers of a certain age will remember Chung as the "Tonto" to the "Lone Ranger" who was the Wolf of Kabul (aka 2 Lt Bill Sampson), in The Wizard.

Chung's weapon of choice was "Clicky-ba" an aged, cracked (but bound with brass wire) cricket bat.

If there is one thing worse than losing a cricket match, it would be losing to Scotland.

I'm sure Salmon and Sturgeon will come up with something fishy about how the MCC doesn't represent Scottish interests fairly and equitably and how when independent they'll be thrashing the all comers at the World Cup and winning the Ashes with half the series to spare :}

As long as the ICC continue to let minnow teams like the UAE, Afghanistan and England play in the World Cup the competition will be considered a bit of a joke tbh

No No No! Including the minnows doesn't make the competition a joke, Hempy, on the contrary. The phenomenal success of the football World Cup stems from its very inclusiveness which allows youngsters from Gabon to Gaza to identify with it.

If there's just a hint of a serious side to this most flippant of threads it's that the mere presence of an Afgan team at an international contest shows that all our blood and treasure expended there hasn't been an absolute and total waste!
