VC 10 Swift Silent Superb....new version

For all who may be interested there is a planned new book on the VC 10. By the same Author as Swift Silent Superb (now very collectable not to mention expensive) it is due for release mid 2015. 2 versions available Hardback and a Leather Bound option........ I am not connected with it in any way but have ordered mine and was around the Secret Oxford Air Base as the Queen of the Skies got airborne for the last time. Many visitors were asking about books and this was in process so just hope to let those who wish to know about it.

I will try and work on a link but as a confirmed Luddite in the interim a Google search for Scoval Publishing will take you to the home page...:D

Surely just Swift Superb?

Silent......

Well it was pretty quiet from a window seat at the front. That said I guess in the cheap seats down the back she wasn't quite so.
And from outside...... Half the reason people would watch I'm sure was just for the noise. And with a cacophany of support from car alarms to boot:)

Fine for a comp A

I've always said, one of the best things about the military is the Comp A system, I once dropped a guy off at Hannover who subsequently left terminal D via a diverted VC 10, whilst talking to the mover afterwards, he was preparing to go and deal with the fine due to the mighty VC10 breaking all sorts of noise laws! (I believe it was to the order of thousands!!!!)

I do recall that we had a special low noise approach into Hannover with gear at the last moment. Take off was also planned carefully with full power to the noise monitoring point, then engine reduced to min just before. If you set of the bells, Ascot Ops got a snottogram.

Definitely Not Silent From The Outside!!

My Married Quarter at Gutersloh was one of the three houses between the Officers' Mess and the 27 threshold.

The Op BANNER flight to Northern Ireland used to depart at 0710 every Sunday morning, and to ensure that the good Burghers of Gutersloh were not disturbed from their slumbers on a Sunday morning, (and, perhaps more importantly, to minimise the risk of setting off the noise monitors between the airfield and the town!!), it would depart on 27 unless there was a stonking easterly wind which demanded a 09 departure.

The noise made by a VC10 selecting full power on all four just a few hundred yards from the bedroom made certain that we were awake at 0710 every Sunday, no matter how late the Saturday night party had finished, and no matter how much Grobbly/wine had been consumed the night before.

It ensured that every Sunday at Gutersloh was just one very long hangover!! :\

So, definitely not silent for most of us!!

Not wasted then...

Oh I'm so glad the 10 Tons of fuel used in the first hour especially from a standing start on the end of 27 wasn't wasted then....... To be fair we used Full power at noise sensitive areas and Factored else where........ There was of course method in the madness but I'm sure it was of little comfort to those so rudely awoken from alcohol induced coma....;)

I'd second that RTL, having been a recipient of the service back from OP Grapple 4 I would like to say thanks to all involved from the desk, crew movers etc etc. A very well organised service that took no prisoners when making the arrangements and just did not understand the word no. Got back in time to say bye to mother.

As for the Fun Bus, it's been sooo quiet here at Brize since it left
