Russia wants East.Germany back...
Russia may declare 1990 reunification illegal - Germany's news in English
Bet that 1. There's plenty thinking give it back to them 2. The Ossies are bricking it.... |
I should think this is all getting a bit boring for the Poles. Squeezed between Germans and Russians again?
They must just long for a bit of variety, like when the Swedes came from the North or the Ottomans from the south. ;) |
Unlike Crimea, which was part of Ukraine, the DDR was an "independent(?)" entity, not part of Russia
|
Bring back the Trabant!
|
Somewhat late in the day for that call I would have thought
|
Wasn't East Germany just Germany pre 1939 so what would be the basis of any Russian claim. If the Russians start making claims against other countries hadn't they better start looking at the Japanese islands they took from Japan at the end of WWII?
|
I was under the impression that the Russians still had part of the old Greater Germany, Kaliningrad, it would seem that this is not enough for the Kremlin?
|
Putin, or Putler as my Russian friends call him, may well be the greatest danger to European peace and stability since Herr Schickelgruber.

In 1989/1990, in the 2+4 talks (2 Germanies plus USSR, USA, UK and France), also the USSR agreed to the German reunification.
A bit late for Mr. Putin to change his mind, methinks. |
Crimea was part of Ukraine while Ukraine was part of USSR, certainly nobody from Moscow would hand their strategic port to Ukraine if they thought there was just a smallest chance of Ukraine seceding from USSR.
It should become part of Russia in 1990 but back then Russia had other problems... |
Now what did we do with all those 2 & 4 ATAF airfields, misplaced somewhere in the midst of the euphoria of the Wall falling.
|
Putin, or Putler as my Russian friends call him, may well be the greatest danger to European peace and stability since Herr Schickelgruber. Clever than the Ayatollahs, and desperate to project Russian 'power' again on the World stage. Oh, but isn't Russia broke [again]? Never mind, truck on regardless in the sure knowledge that the Russian people are 100% behind him ... possibly. I wish him an early coronary. He's lost credibility with the West, now we must just wait until he fall off his Former KGB perch and some semblance of sanity/normality returns. Vladimir ... you are 2nd echelon, and slightly deranged. Get used to it. |
Maybe not just East Germany?
BBC Reporting at BBC News - Russian military jets 'disrupted UK aviation'
Russian military planes flying near UK airspace caused "disruption to civil aviation" on Wednesday, the UK Foreign Office said. It said the Russian aircraft did not enter UK airspace, but the manoeuvres were "part of increasing pattern of out-of-area operations" by Russia. The planes were "escorted" by RAF jets "throughout the time they were in the UK area of interest", officials added. Russia's ambassador has been summoned to "account for the incident". |

Crimea was part of Russia from 1783 till 1954
|
We are condemned to live in increasingly interesting times.

Most of them seem to be Ryanair Bases!!!!!! |

The Russians have played a long game.
Watch us fight a war they couldnt win and bankrupt ourselves.where did they get that idea? |

Putin lost credibility with the western media, western media lost credibility with most people in Europe, American government lost credibility with most American people, Putin has the highest credibility with the Russian people.....
Just for a change, look at this: Winter gliding in Russia | Aviation Blog |
The Russians pinched Crimea in 1783 from the Ottomans. Perhaps Turkey has more "right" to it than Russia? We all know that Russian leaders like to pretend that nobody has any credibility so that their own lies can be ignored.
|
The Prussians will want Danzig and Köenigsberg back next
|
maybe we should ask for the USA..................
|
HH - do you really want us back?

Interesting take on things in The Spectator. Not sure I agree with all of it but worth a quick read.
The new Russian tyranny is post-modern in its public face » Spectator Blogs |
I'm sure his next act will be to declare the US failed to fully complete the terms of the sale brokered by William Seward, and that therefore Russia is still rightful owner of the property in question.

Circa 1984: At a drinking party with a bunch of Polish Merchant Marine sailors, a "joke" as told by one of the officers
Q: The Russians are invading Poland from the West and the Germans are invading from the East, who do shoot at first ? A: The Germans of course ! Business before pleasure. |
Hope he wasn't the navigator...
|
He'll be after Alaska too no doubt!
|
Buster,
I think you'll find that GK121 already said that 3 posts earlier!! := |
Alaska is out of the question. New York and the rest of the liberal NE is negotiable.
|
Biggus - I think I used too many long words for Buster. ;)
|
Yes you did. My post was more succinct & easier for Daily Mail readers to follow.
|
You are saying they can read? I had no idea. ;)
|
No, not at all. I assume their Parents read it to them.
