Vlad is starting to sweat, his criminality is slowly starting to emerge so he is using threatening tactics, I presume.

The murder of Mr. Litvinenko put many hundreds of people's lives in jeopardy and he knows it, he knows there will be consequences if it is suggested beyond reasonable doubt that, that order came from the very top. He refused to extradite the two individuals and that, to me (being the cynical barsteward that I am) suggests he has something to hide.

I believe they came down the usual GIUK route and turned left at the Scillies. Nothing at all to do with the Litvinenko inquiry, of course. Just a coincidence.:suspect:

Civil aviation disrupted - The UK has summoned the Russian Ambassador to explain why military planes flew over the English Channel.

Onceapilot 29th Jan 2015 17:46

Hmmmm, according to beeb, they "flew right arround UK, came within 25 miles (tricky, near Dover that would put them over France) and were intercepted by RAF Tornado's. Well done MRCA:ok:

Absolutely pointless, they won't hold their hands up, they never do. Obviously this was not just a "routine sortie", the Russian Federal Government has an objective in mind. They are being shunned by most civilised Western countries for attempting to destabilise Ukraine, they have repeatedly lied about withdrawing all of their deployed assets, their economy is collapsing due to the sanctions imposed and if there is significant evidence in the Litivenko inquiry which suggests Putin is responsible, it's likely he will have an appointment in The Hague.

UK summons Russian ambassador after 'dangerous' bombers disrupt civil aircraft - Telegraph

The flight was around the west coast of the British Isles, around the Isles of Scilly and up the English Channel. they didn't get as far as Dover!

I posted the following on the FC Forum a little while ago.
As I say , make of it what you will , but it certainly suggests the Bears
flew as far east as Eastbourne before turning about.

A replay of yesterday's movements in the Channel show the Typhoon heading east mid channel on the edge of UK FIR
It then turns about abeam Eastbourne and runs parallel to the FIR boundary with tanker some way behind until abeam Selsey
where the Typhoon carries out one RH orbit and meets the tanker and starts refuelling.
Tanking is complete abeam Swanage , tanker turns north , Typhoon departs to the west again following the line of the FIR boundary.

Make of this what you will , but it suggests that the Tu54s "did" fly up channel as far as a line Eastbourne/Dieppe

TU 54? Doubt it. Do you mean TU 95?

Roadster280 29th Jan 2015 19:20

Perhaps Sopley needs to be reactivated to protect Bournemouth!

uksatcomuk 29th Jan 2015 19:24

Yes , bit of a typo there....right shape...wrong aircraft !

Andrewgr2 29th Jan 2015 19:46

What sort of altitude are these games played at? I would have thought that most of the Channel is pretty busy with airliners in CAS up to around FL450.

Andrewgr2 29th Jan 2015 19:49

And if they are flying just outside the London FIR boundary then they must be within the Paris or Brest FIR. Don't the French mind the infringement of 'their' airspace?

uksatcomuk 29th Jan 2015 19:56

All this happened at around FL270 +/- 2K or so

XLF911M/SE911 32K
FPO 338K 30K
FXR18G 29K

appear to have changed course.

On the BBC 10pm news the reporter in the studio stated it was Tornados that made the interception again......http://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

Bring back Hawkinge and dust off the Chain Home!
