Just watched it on the Beeb's News website. An interesting and informative ten minutes - well worth watching.

The Special Relationship is as stone dead as the fixed wing Fleet Air Arm, and only two or three replies to this thread proves it.

Interesting that they are spending so much time loitering and orbiting.
The perspective from news coverage is that it's take off, wham bam thank you mam and back.
That's a long day to spend with your posterior on a hard bang seat - waiting to plink a target.
You'd think there's be a market for a `Super-Reaper' type platform with double the weapon loadout that could spend all day out of reach of manpads, just waiting for a target to emerge.

Yes - twin turboprop - similar loiter time - but more hardpoints - able to carry 20-30 small diameter bombs, or large amount of Hellfires. And maybe a 30 mike under the nose - just for fun...

X47 is the USN's future carrier-based UAV. Way, way in advance of both Mantis and Taranis.

But the UK will benefit directly because now we're fitting cats and traps and buying F-35C our drones could be like the X-47 and also operate from the boat.
It would be like a flexible basing option for the Combat Air mix.
