RAF NY Honours 2015

RAF - New Years Honours 2015New Years Honours 2015

To all those who have done well, well done! :ok:

Likewise, although last night's thread seems to have dissapeared on the matter.

One still wonder's if it will be "Arise, Sir Baz" from HM, though! It's good to see him being recognised and for being himself all the way up the slippery pole.

Once again, congrats to all...

Many congrats to 'Big Bad Baz' - one of the good guys when I was 'active'.

Whenurhappy 31st Dec 2014 09:00

Oh dear, they've forgotten to add my name to the list again.

teeteringhead 31st Dec 2014 14:50

I too hope we get "Sir Baz" rather than some strange sounding bloke called "Sir Barry".

After all, we had Sir Jock (Stirrup) and Sir Joe (French) so why not??

Congrats anyway Sir - whatever you choose to be called. :ok:

I am delighted to see that the RAFAT Team Leader received well deserved recognition for his outstanding achievements and leadership during the Team's very difficult and hectic last three display years.

Wander00 1st Jan 2015 09:54

Surprised no AFCs or QCs - or has the process changed?

Alber Ratman 1st Jan 2015 18:19

Couple of old mates on the list.. Good to see.

Heathrow Harry 2nd Jan 2015 14:13

letter in the Times from some army oficer (ex_) saying there were very very few gongs for the guys at the bottom and a lot for SO's (again) in all the armed forces lists

The Honours and Awards system sits uneasily with socialist ideals. The Corporal in charge of the ration store doesn't have the same opportunity to make a noticeable difference to a large forum over a period of time as the Team Leader of RAFAT. These are not operational awards where juniors can compete on a more level playing field for a very different type of recognition.

Also the award of a civil MBE to a School Crossing Executive is not in same league as a military honour of the same level.

Have never forgiven Baz for putting a new thermostat in the Cavalier, upside
down, whist we were on 72 in the early 80's. The Cav overheated in downtown Belfast on a dark rainy night. Was Baz there then?
Probably not.
PM me if you read this Baz, ha ha.

Pal of mine made the list, well done that man!! Up stumps and down the pub then?:ok:

Wander00 3rd Jan 2015 18:58

"Socialist", "ideals", same sentence, nah - ok, hat, coat.................

AOJM 4th Jan 2015 00:26

Another Congratz to Baz. :D

NutLoose 4th Jan 2015 00:33

They do seem a bit thin on the ground, though I often wonder why they put up commendations as they are not exactly awards, simply fluff.

Heathrow Harry 4th Jan 2015 11:04

"lso the award of a civil MBE to a School Crossing Executive is not in same league as a military honour of the same level"

actually it is the same to the world... not a gong for bravery but one for time serving in most cases

I have never understood why SO's get awards for just being there -and after the last few years don't tell me "they made a difference" (actually they probably did but we've given up shooting incompetents)

Really. My 90 year old aunt was awarded an honorary BEM (she is not a British National) for services to old people. As a nun of 75 years she had dedicated her life to caring for the elderly.

When she "retired" at 70, it meant that she only had to get up at 07:00 each day before continuing her life's work, and she hasn't received a penny for it.

How does that compare?

OBE = Other Barstewards Efforts :ooh:

Very pleased to see two names in the List - both of whom in different ways are superb ambassadors for the RAF.

AM Baz North and Sqn Ldr Jim Turner who was an outstanding Leader of the RAFAT throughout a very challenging period.

Both honours earned and well deserved. :ok:

And, in the finest traditions, there will be Lady Fiona North who has supported Baz all the way:ok:
