St Mawgans Shackleton is up for tender

I thought that the Air Atlantique types wanted it and that was why it was replaced with SAR Helo for a Gate Guard? Or has that deal fallen through?

On the MOD website:-
Avpin start system is drained |
I must admit I thought it belonged to the charming retired types who opened it for my cadets to visit at the weekend - I thought it was already a preservation project.
|
I know a man who should be pleased to contribute...especially since he had ahem...romantic encounters in it when it was parked down the hill from the Sgt's Mess around 1990

Used to like you till you called me Dubya LJ :ok: |
Camelspyder - wasn't it known as the Love Shack? :ok:
|
Those beds do not look that comfy for any of that. Surprised to see she has the engines inhibited.
|
Love Shack
LOL - the timeline certainly fits, the B-52s put that single out in '89 and we sang it all the way down I-95 on det.

What is a Rolls-Royce "Griffin"? I would have guessed that they meant Rolls-Royce Griffon, but that is not fitted with an "avpin starter"????:E
OAP |
What type of starter did the Vipers have? I'm guessing that they were electric and not avpin though.
|
That was the Mk3.

Griffin Griffon Gryphon
valuable input from Over Age Pedant there...
Spelling is optional in Great Britain these days you know;) |
"Spelling is optional in Great Britain these days you know."
There speaks a man who cannot spell arachnid. |
Maybe, the "Griffin" is from a series of engines named after Wizards.. like the "Merlin" is....
OAP |
funnily enough the last time I got flamed to death on here by the long-term residents and forced to change my nom-de-plume, my proposed new online ID
camelspider was already taken as was camelspyder hence the strange 3rd attempt. :) |

Looks like you've caught one already, Onceapilot.

Lovely machine, loved walking past her on the way back to the mess when down there in exercise. My Dad used to work on Shackletons at St Eval in the early 50's with 220 Sqn. :ok:
More pics of 'T' Shackleton WL795 St Mawgan At least she's close to home .... Google Maps 22° 37′ 49.8″ N, 13° 14′ 15″ W |
I haven't been down to Newquey International for 2 years so diidnt know the Shack had been moved up the hill. How are Kipper Fleet fleet types going to pass the time on the long walk up the hill to the mess from the taxi with no props to move?
