It's had its knockers over the years, but footage like this I think will ensure the Tornado is remembered with reverence / fondly in years to come. It will be missed when its gone. |
Cheers for replies everyone - very insightful. Can somebody tell me what the audible warning sound is in the background as "There's the cannisters" is announced?
Thanks |

In particular: "RHWR" "Overiddance" "Theres the canisters" (Audible alarm in background) "Deltas off" "Charlies off" " We had some Roland on the run-in". the phrase "off" I believe is actually "lobbed", as aircraft pass over their target and come up from 200 ft in an arc to about 600 ft to "lob" their ordinance onto the target, then descent back down to 220ft. |
I was on a EW course 3 years ago with Rupert Clark at Cranwell; to reinforce some of the points we were being taught he was given a slot after tea break at 3pm talking about Iraqi SAMs, his experiences and what happened on that fateful day. At 6.20pm he was asked to pause and continue his talk later on in the course, those 3 hours passed by in a blink of an eye and is particularly poignant today and the way he talked about his dear friend and how it affected him and members of his Sqn. Was one of the best talks I've heard in my time in the Royal Air force and certainly hit home at the harsh realities of air combat.

I assume that one of the Tornado's damaged by its own bombs was Delta Hotal, which is on the B Word's video link. (My Brother was one of the guys who fixed it ). |

MainjAfad, yes, it was. We escorted it back to Dhahran and it was a bit of a mess, having to blow down its undercarriage and no thrust reverse. The navigator that day/night went on to be a Stn Cdr at Marham. I may well know your brother, in that case.
Surely the phrase 'Delta's off' etc, simply refers to the ac being off target? |
