WIWOL

We meet tomorrow! If you flew the beast then come and join us:ok:

Courtney Mil 1st Oct 2014 22:39

At the North Pole, Newt?

newt 2nd Oct 2014 06:26

Not quite Courtney!

Petrolhead 2nd Oct 2014 22:02

A good turnout today! So many hanger doors open and we drunk the pub dry

Aaah WIWOL

Tarnished 3rd Oct 2014 13:01

Great day out,

However, I think I perspired more than I consumed. Hotter than an Akrotiri Kebab House with the windows closed in August!!

Until next year.

good to see you old boys still getting out :p Looking forward to the WIWON meets in decades hence...;) By the way - do you ever invite the chap (Jengo?) who had a brief unexpected trip in one many years back? (I know the whole story is on pprune somewhere - no need to repeat it here). Guess he qualifies as WIWOL - even if it was a short flight!

4Greens 3rd Oct 2014 16:25

WIWOL ???????

Schnowzer 3rd Oct 2014 16:34

When I Was On (English Electric) Lightnings. Look for a group of small, mouthy types in a pub on the Strand, I wonder if the F-35 boys will be invited.

4Greens 3rd Oct 2014 19:40

Friend of mine on them always referred to them a 'Frightenings'.

We had a "Sporting Sam" lookalike Lightning pilot ( L.. H... ) doing a tour as an O T Flight Commander at the Towers c.1973.
He was so proud when his flight presented him with their tie, which had ( he was told) a latin phrase initialised on it, meaning "Look unto our flight for all things"
.............. LPPMO

It was actually sung to the tune of "Camptown Races"

" Lightning Pilots P*ss Me Off! .......doo dah, doo dah....."

CoffmanStarter 11th Oct 2014 17:50

What a brilliant idea ... :D:D:D:D

Pontius Navigator 11th Oct 2014 18:10

Sandy Parts, I thought they did, or was that WIWOS? Or for real oldies, WIWON or even WIWOW:)

BTW. I met a WIWOW a few years back in the RAF Club. Always worthwhile taking a punt, saw a chap at Runeymede with an Air Gunners Association badge on his car. He showed me his photographs, many in colour; humbling.

BEagle 11th Oct 2014 18:28

LPPMO - the work of Dick 'Whizzbang' W*s*l**e who, despite doing very well at RAFC, Valley and Brawdy, with a posting to Harriers awaiting him, decided to jack the whole thing in and to emigrate...

Nice chap - and an Oxford rowing Blue.

L*s H*w* did at least see the funny side of LPPMO. Or perhaps it was the news that he'd been selected for an exchange tour on the F-106 in Florida, IIRC?

DeepestSouth 13th Oct 2014 15:29

This brought back memories. The first time I ever heard "WIWOL" was from the aforementioned L*s H*w*. He was not my Flt Cdr (that was J*h* M*tc*e*l) but I recall L*s, the LPPMO ties and the song very clearly. IIRC from one of the Flight involved, no-one actually told L*s what LPPMO meant but ... he suddenly worked it out himself. His reaction was apparently 'You b*s*a*d*' repeated several times, with feeling!, but he was, apparently, quite amused. A thoroughly decent bloke and Flt Cdr!

LPPMO

DS
Your recollection ties in exactly with mine. My Flight Commander ( 10 G.E.) was M.ke P..tc...d who allegedly was heard singing the ditty as he walked past L.s in the College Hall bar.
L.s H.w. had "1 " Flight and the dog Latin was knocked up by W..f G.w..g
I totally agree with your assessment of L. H. and indeed I think it applies to all of the O.T. Flight Commanders that we were fortunate to have at the Towers at that time.

Basil 13th Oct 2014 19:39

LPPMO? Hmm, yes, I can imagine that :E

I am reliably informed that the WIWOL Bash in the Marlborough Head on 2nd Oct was attended by over 200, including three Knights of the Realm, and the pub started to run out of certain brands of brown beer midway through the afternoon!:ok:

jindabyne 13th Oct 2014 20:14

and the pub started to run out of certain brands of brown beer midway through the afternoon
Something that would be unheard of at a Buccaneer reunion:sad: And before you say it Newt, we could/can
