Fancy a DFC - got £100k to spare?

As usual the Mail gets the headline wrong - for "sells", read "hopes to sell".

Captain Tom O'Malley sells his medals for £100k to start new life as a civilian | Mail Online

I must say this is an impressive DFC - but then they all are. Whether its going to raise £100k for this guy is another matter, but good modern gallantry groups are making loads of money these days, one reason is there are far fewer of them around than, say, WW1 and WW1 groups, so it may well make six figures. One thing is for sure, with the eye-watering commission charged by major auctioneers these days, typically 15-20% seller's and 22.5 % buyer's commission, the firm handling the sale are going to pocket a big chunk of the proceeds!

No doubt he will come in for a certain amount of stick for flogging his medals, but good luck to him, I say. But then, as a former medal dealer I would say that, wouldn't I! ?

Well they are his medals and no one elses. What he does with them is his business; best of luck to the guy. If he's a civvy FI then the annual renewal doesn't come cheap.
