Iranian Aircraft Carrier (Maybe)

Seen this on another forum and thought of our soon to be new Carrier.s

Iran building giant fake U.S. Navy aircraft carrier - Washington Times

TEEEJ 25th Mar 2014 22:44

Apparently being built for a movie about Iran Air Flight 655.

American actor and documentary filmmaker Sean Stone along with the actor Val Edward Kilmer have been selected to star in an Iranian cinematic project.
Both actors are slated to appear in a true story inspired movie titled Airbus representing the crash of Iran Air Flight 655.

Jeez, how many stolen iPods could fit in that?

500N 25th Mar 2014 23:19

Well Val Edward Kilmer won't be playing the hot looking FJ pilot this time :O

racedo 25th Mar 2014 23:49

This is really funny given the media have been turning themselves in Knots since they first found out about with all ideas of Iran building Nuclear powered carriers etc.

Buster Hyman 26th Mar 2014 00:13

They've been working so hard on it...I haven't got the heart to tell them that the USS Vincennes isn't an aircraft carrier.

gr4techie 26th Mar 2014 01:24

CGI would be less hassle.

N2erk 26th Mar 2014 01:48

Maybe Val Kilmer will resurrect his role of 'Iceman" as the Tomcat pilot, who the Vincennes said they thought they were shooting at:E

500N 26th Mar 2014 01:50

He wouldn't fit in the cockpit and not sure they make a goon suit big enough :O

I was thinking the over weight drunk American that is sure to be in the film !

N2erk 26th Mar 2014 01:51

OK, so the satellite photo looks like a toy my grandson has, but the REAL carrier will probably be sold for scrap value to the Chinese, who will turn it into another theme park.....:)

If they've put in that much money and effort there's a damn good reason why, and I'm not sure that flippancy is the best response. Their ridiculous cardboard stealth fighters are one thing, this is on a completely different scale.

They're up to something, and I don't suppose its building a movie set.

My bet is on it being built for a live scale demonstration of Iran’s Khalij Fars anti-ship ballistic missile.

Lonewolf_50 26th Mar 2014 13:57

mel, why would you use a ballistic missile in the anti ship role? Ships are moving targets.

Iran rolls out ballistic missiles - IHS Jane's 360

A A Gruntpuddock 26th Mar 2014 14:31

"Ships are moving targets" - that one doesn't look like it will be moving much.

Seems to be just a flat-bottomed barge with flotation devices along the side.

Almost certainly no engines so will need tugs for positioning.

I tend to agree with a comment I saw elsewhere that this was built for destruction and the operation filmed to be shown as a successful attack on a US carrier.

Lonewolf_50 26th Mar 2014 14:31

Roger: lob it out there, optical/radar/IR seeker end game. Thanks.

TEEEJ 26th Mar 2014 20:24

After filming it will probably end up as a target for further testing of their anti-ship ballistic missile?
