I think the Red Arrows' display is superlative. :ok: More power to their elbow !

I don't care what colour they paint 'em. "Chacun à son goût", say I.

Clockwork

The fact remains he said something that no-one reading the report would have genuinely thought. "Just one of those things" comes across as dismissive and is the attitude that led to these accidents in the first place. The MOD publicity machine should have had the sense to edit the video.

All the things you said he did.... been there, unfortunately. But I didn't say or think "just one of those things" when asked what happened. I wanted to understand and know someone was trying to stop it happening again.

awblain 22nd Feb 2014 09:37

Without needing to have very many more of "those things", there'd be no team left.

There are lots of other things that could potentially turn easily into "those things".

Genstabler 22nd Feb 2014 10:54

There's a photo on Twitter, retweeted by Red10, of a jet airborne with the new tail and it looks awesome. When all nine are in formation it will look fantastic. I think even BEagle might like it after all!

500N 22nd Feb 2014 11:26

Any chance you can post it ?

Genstabler 22nd Feb 2014 11:29

Don't know how. Let me look into it.

Genstabler 22nd Feb 2014 11:44

Does this work?

Yes, it worked, thanks. Have put it in an image database so
I can post it here.

Agree, it doesn't look bad at all.

They should have included better photos in the press release !

500N - certainly looks better like that

TheWizard 22nd Feb 2014 21:35

That's a photoshop job. Still shows the effect though.

Could be the last? 22nd Feb 2014 22:14

Not sure whether this has been posted already, interesting to see if BAE sponsor RAFAT with Mk2s......?

Red Arrows team leader hopes ageing jets will be replaced with new version of the Hawk | Grimsby Telegraph

New flag anyway?

Reading the good leaders comments, but we all just could be on for new flag(s) anyway in or after 2014/5 if Scots bang out, so that would be a new tail design again.
Hawk looks really old now, reminds me of the Grob in that picture.
Not a snowballs chance in hell of him getting of a dozen odd new military jets for a summer flying display team in the future - think about it and accept it.
Meanwhile, tonight the RAF lacks many, many things of both greater need and use to serve Britain in its defence-that's where its energy in lobbying should go.
For the last time, we do not need and should not fund out of taxpayers cash a bloody flying club when the money could be used properly for real UK defence.

Red Arrows makeover for 2014.

Hangarshuffle.
You just don't get it do you. It must be a hell of a thing to exist in your world. One where you can pig headedly ignore any sensible and informed inputs from everyone else and proclaim yourself to have the only correct opinion. You're not David Icke are you?!
I'm not going to try to change your mind since you clearly wouldn't listen but rest assured that there are plenty who would disagree with you. They also probably can't be arsed to reply to you in any detail.

Fighter Control, among others, are posting photos of the jets airborne. I think the tails look stunning.

500N 25th Feb 2014 20:11

Agree.

They look great, it certainly does grown on you as a design.

awblain 25th Feb 2014 20:57

It does look much better from a distance.

Blacksheep 26th Feb 2014 19:18

I was at Duxford last year and the Patrouille gave a fantastic display. "How can anyone top that" I thought, and I wasn't alone.

Then the Red Arrows came along and gave the answer :ok:

Wander00 26th Feb 2014 20:14

Living in France I see Patrouille 2 or 3 times a year - still think the Reds are better - and as I explained to a French spectator once - Patrouille huite avions, reds neuf avions. Got a very funny look

Come on, admit it BEagle!

For the last time, we do not need and should not fund out of taxpayers cash a bloody flying club when the money could be used properly for real UK defence.
You are at risk of coming across as a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

‘taxpayers cash’
As a taxpayer (and civilian), I am entirely happy that part of the tax I pay goes towards the very reasonable Red Arrows budget and would be very disappointed, appalled actually, if the funding ceased. There are numerous other things upon which taxpayers’ money is spent/wasted which I’d prefer to see go first. I believe that the overwhelming majority of tax-payers share my view.

‘a bloody flying club’
Perhaps in describing what is unarguably one of the finest aerobatic teams in the world, and arguably the finest, in that rather curious way you have inadvertently stumbled upon a good fund-raising idea.
I organised a silent auction at a formal dinner last October to raise funds for charity. The winning bid - for a ride in a Spitfire - was £4747. I suspect there are many people who are able and would be willing to pay far more than that for a flight with the Red Arrows.

More seriously, during a speech at The Honourable Company of Air Pilots' Banquet last week I said this:

We enjoy close and active relationships with our many Affiliated Units in all three armed services, including Reserve and Cadet units. I hope their representatives will forgive me for mentioning just one by name: the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team.
The Red Arrows celebrate their 50th display season this year. We congratulate them upon their anniversary and hope that, for many years to come, they will continue to enthral millions of people all over the world with their magnificent displays.
I'm not able to say whether every one of the 420+ people present joined in the immediate and very enthusiastic round of applause showing their agreement, but the volume suggested that the overwhelming majority agreed. The RAF was well represented but so were the other armed services and there were also many civilians present - members, official guests and members' guests.

I’m pleased that Wg Cdr Neil Fraser, OC Red Arrows Squadron, was present to hear the overwhelming support and, I hope, related it to the team.
