Possible help?
 

I have fully restored a Harrier T4 ejection seat. It resides in my workshop. I am trying to find out about information regarding what clothing a typical Cold War Harrier pilot would wear whilst flying. I am trying to locate a complete set up for a manakin.
Also trying to locate a Sidewinder missile body section, I have the fins and nose cap, for another restoration project.
Please note this is simply personal projects, not being done for any financial reason.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
I used to be in the RAF if that helps!

put your affairs in order - even as we speak GCHQ will be on to MI5 - if it wasn't Saturday you'd already be in Belmarsh but with cut-backs they can't afford week-end working..............

Haven't been in my attic recently, Dave, but it will be getting a clear out over the next few weeks, pre-move. I may well be able to help. Except, of course, the boots with flaps on.

Good match for size of face and chin, some of them. Amazed one of them in particular ever squeezed into his seat, let alone took off.

Well thank you chaps for the replies. I wasn't too sure of what to expect with my request here to be honest. You haven't disappointed!
Sidewinder components are readily available to joe public, you just need to look. I have a complete set of engineering drawings, so if I cannot find an original body, I can make one. So any help finding any section of the body would be great.

Paxford Composites in Huntingdon may still have the moulds for the facsimiles they used to make. like the ones on the wing tips of the F5 outside Alconbury. They also used to make all the MB seats for simulators in GRP. Sorry I don't have any contacts there anymore. They still had all the moulds in 1998 when we were making Harrier ground training aids, (weapons loading and engine running)

Thanks for the ref about the composites place. Funnily enough my business is in carbon fibre and other composites. It's my company and we specialise in repairs to the motorsport industry. So as stated earlier will make one if it comes to that but would prefer a real one to make look as new. A good friend is already in to making repro decals.....

The militaria antique shop next to the tea shop at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard had a Sidewinder for about £5000 when I was there a few weeks ago.

I have located a source for an overall, life vest and Anti G leggings.
Could anyone provide any Details of what mark I should be looking for to dress a pilot mid eighties?

Eighty is probably a bit old for a Harrier pilot, although several did act as if they had dementia!

Dave, I think you'd be looking for Mk.2 / 2A anti G trousers, a Mk3C helmet with a P or Q 12 mask and a Mk.27 life preserver (or earlier) with a high pressure PEC and man mounted oxygen regulator. Leg restraints were probably single ring or possibly later double ring types, like those used in Hawk/Tucano. I'm sure a more ancient squipper will be along presently to correct any errors.

Edit, sorry forgot the boots, lightweight brown jobs with big flaps over the laces..pukka bonna jet.:E

Thank you for all your replies. Stitch, all sounds fine so thank you so much. Ref the leg restraints it will be the double loop versions. I do have a pair of them but they have seen far better days....

I have a Mk 14A flying suit from 1991, so you are looking for a Mk12 or 13.
