Where in the world is this?
Can someone please tell me where this picture was taken?

12 minutes! Impressive stuff Stuff but how?

I cheated.
Save the picture and open the EXIF data. It contains the tags, "Andravida; Photo Chase; SAC Rob Travis; Red Arrows; RAFAT; Crown Copyright; " |

Thank you very much - most impressive. I have never heard of EXIF data before. The Google Earth link which you supplied shows some blokes face - is this you?The closest I got was Alconbury which was clearly wrong. Maybe we should start a photo competition? Cheers EM |

Have the cut backs deprived him of a shirt then? |
You could actually venture to the "dark side" and join in here http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/4424...earth-709.html

Hopefully fixed the link. It worked on my pc, must have been a cookie thing.

Thanks Stuff, every day's a school day.

OK Chaps have a look at this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLMhdUYUQQg Go to 4.00 mins and the Lightening is doing a low pass - Where and what type of aeroplane is on the runway when it is overflown !! (only in the old day eh!) |

Just seen it so I shall join in. Duplication not intended. But before we close any ideas on the Lightening video.

Looks like B-17 from what little you can see. |

B-29 Washington

I think Shackleton would be a safe bet
|
Looks like Kinloss so my bet would be Shacklebomber as well.
|
OK, has that aircraft got two tails or one ?
I know I am blind but to me I thought one, hence the B-17 guess. |
John Eacott
Many thanks for the spelling check. My excuse is that I was celebrating the latest test cricket news (England retain the Ashes by the way) with an excellent half price bottle of New Zealand white - very nice. Cheers EM |
Two fins, and too square a nose for the earlier Shacklebomber?
E-, No doubt a sav blanc? UnZud sav blanc has overtaken all other white wine sales here, much to the chagrin of our local producers whose product is a much drier and 'traditional' sauvignon blanc than the trans Tasman import. But sales tell the story and the MacDonalds of the wine world just keeps on selling, Oyster Bay being the top earner :hmm: |
And we don't mention cricket at the moment, especially since the birthplace of The Ashes is just down the road to me :p
|
The aeroplane overflown is a tail wheeler with an H tail arrangement (2 fins) could it be a Lincoln? There are some good reference points, on the video, of the airfield being overflown so that ought to prod some memories of those that contribute to this forum? Is the airfield being overflown the same as the one at which the landing was made and was that Grimsby (Binbrook)?
John E I can understand your reluctance to talk about cricket; the news must have come as a blow not dissimilar to the Lions test. Still there's always next year though Lord only knows what will happen at the autumn internationals between England and Australia at Twickenham this year? I think I might pop back to Tesco's for some more of the 1/2 price NZ plonk. Cheers ;) EM |

The only thing you left out on mentioning was the Olympics and not so good performance of the Aussies compared to GB !!! :O |
