And another drone bites the dust.....
It seems that Tyndall have lost yet another drone after a QF-4 crashed on take-off:
Unmanned QF-4 crashes at Tyndall Another drone was also destroyed on 10 July when controllers were 'unable to land the aircraft'. :hmm: |
Terrible waste of a magnificent aircraft... F-4s converted to drones, sacrilege!

Since the Scots won't have pounds to pay for them, there may well be six or seven Q-L1011s available . . .

Oh, I don't know. Perhaps they can get some Groats from John O. Should be legal tender if Wee Eck has his way.

Just interested ... Does anyone know how may QF-4's remain in operation with the Americans ? I thought the QF-16 was to replace the Phantom Target Drones ?

Coffman
In one of the articles, I think the one last year either announcing that they are moving to QF-16's or that this was the last F-4 being converted to a QF-4, it said how many they had left. It wasn't many. I'll see if I can find it. Edit The last one was converted in May 2013. They also have some QF-4's that they fly themselves as chase planes so I suppose it depends on whether these will also end up being used as targets or kept as flyers. |
The cause The cause was mechanical. Autopilot problems caused July QRF-4 drone crash | sUAS News Mickjoebill Well, it wasn't pilot error... |
Many thanks 500N :ok:
