Aviation Music

I've just googled military aviation music, expecting to find the RAF Central band playing the "Dambusters March". Instead I found this - what fun! Love em or hate em, the spams do stuff! But it was just an exercise!

Why were they bombing the desert next to those lovely little tanks?

Slight drift - why do all Swiss Air Force serials start "J"?. Just wondered

CoffmanStarter 7th Jun 2013 15:56

Wander00 ... I believe the following might help ...

Up until 1934, Swiss military aircraft were allocated a simple three digit numerical serial number. After this date a letter was added to the serial indicating the aircraft's main role: A = Transport, B = Bomber/Photo Survey, C = Reconnaissance, J = Fighter, U = Trainer, V = Observation/Liaison.

Thanks Coffman - I have only seen "fighters" so thought all were "J". Simples. I knew SOMEONE would know

See 2:05 for about 20 seconds. Don't suppose the RAF would do a flypast for many wee folk bands from Skye & North Uist.

For the more sedate fliers, try a bit of PFM from the gliding fraternity:

Any help with posting a vid would be welcome, hope the link works, please give it a chance, it's not bad !!! :hmm:

Aah, "my" gliding club again. Brilliant

Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" which features on the following clip:

HD Ode to Joyous Flight (Sky Fighters Les Chevaliers du Ciel).mp4

Nearly five minutes long this is a compilation of clips from the 2005 French movie, Les Chevaliers du Ciel (Sky Fighters) to a remix of the classic Ode to Joy by Beethoven.

Watch it in HD - it's brilliant!

Music is played by the Belgian Group "Adya"

Just for a bit of balance, the delicate harmonies and nuance of Wolfmother....

Apologies, it's not Military, but one for the Flight Engineers amongst us. There's some humour in this.

Nice one, Smudge.

The Belgian film is excellent, Warmtoast.

How about a bit of Brit stuff? :ok:

Wander00 8th Jun 2013 13:01

Great stuff, and the shots of Mount Pleasant very nostalgic for me - I signed for most of the infrastructure from the builders before RAF Mount Pleasant opened on 1 May 86 - and the first exercise hooter went at about 0300 on 2 May 86! Thank you Joe.
