Display schedule ????

SASless 2nd May 2013 21:44

Flight Planning?

Can a pair of RAF Pilots not find their way around without a NAV holding their hands?:E

NutLoose 2nd May 2013 23:33

Of course you could just have one manager or all the teams, too book the hotels and things.

seadrills 3rd May 2013 06:51

One of those 2 crewmen could have acted as the display manager .... Waste of resources IMHO

TheWizard 3rd May 2013 07:26

Yes, and that one person could organise all the ground support crews and equipment, transportation and accommodation too. Oh and arrange publicity and PR for each team as well as commentate on each aircraft display, it's abilities, role and crew details.

or not.

Now where is that Flight Safety poster about distractions before flying........

Most teams have a 'manager', this poor guy is only getting the flak because his team have included him in the photo. I suspect the armchair critics have never been involved in display flying and don't realise the pressures of doing it over and above a day job.

Always one of the best displays on the circuit. Some of the comments above are just plain mean spirited jealousy.....shame really. Good luck to the team. Hope it's as good as the days of Chinook240's.

Being a former Chinook Pilot....the RAF Chinook Display Teams puts on a Show that is worthy of admiration by anyone that understands just how well they demonstrate the capability of the Wokka. I turn green each time I have had the pleasure of seeing them.....having done many of the same maneuvers (on purpose some of the time) as they do in their display.

One small part of the story that is left out....is the team of Engineers that keeps the Aircraft ready for the Show. They need to be recognized for the role they play in the display as well.

CoffmanStarter 3rd May 2013 16:44

Well said SASless regarding the Engineering Team ... all most always missed off the preverbal credits :(

Critical,

"The admin burden gets bigger every year and the amount of paperwork required begins to eat into your display preparation time if the manager is not there to deal with the trivia."

If the above is now the NORM and the requirement is to have another pilot to deal with all the triv..........regulations need to be reviewed, or you could use an Ops Officer(VFM). All the other 'planning' is surely routine crew sortie prep?

Comments aside, the display is outstanding!

Have a great season lads, hats off to you all!

seadrills 3rd May 2013 21:53

The season this year will be made all the more challenging due to the two over water displays. The lack of visual references for the pilots makes the manoeuvres flown far more challenging.

I used to use the beach ..... Easy peasy

WhiteOvies 4th May 2013 04:38

Had the pleasure of seeing the Wokka display at a Wittering families day a few years back and it was the best display by far.

The Harrier Display Team had a manager, the 20 (R) Sqn UMO who was a Sgt. Absolutely critical and he was a key member of the team as we took two GR7s round the Country.
