Group Captain Sir Chris Hoy has responded to his honorary appointment by saying:

“I am thrilled to be invited to be an Ambassador for the Air Cadet Organisation. I am really impressed by the wide range of activities on offer to the cadets and by the commitment of the adult volunteers who support these young people in achieving their potential and becoming good citizens. I particularly like the emphasis on sport and competition across the Corps and I look forward to attending events as and when my schedule permits. If I can’t be there in person, I will be there in spirit and I send my very best wishes to everyone in the Corps.”
That's a good move :D:D:D:D

Best ...

Coff.

PS. A far better caliber of individual than that Scottish Banking to$$er who was given the rank of Hon Air Commodore ... at least it was eventually removed along with his knighthood ...

Excellent. Should set a good example.

He even looks the part in the photo above and below

Who was the "Scottish Banking to$$er who was given the rank of Hon Air Commodore ... at least it was eventually removed along with his knighthood ..."

and what was he given the rank for ?

Rossian 22nd Apr 2013 19:29

Scottish banker...

....hereinafter referred to as such, in the same that a certain chap is referred to as "The Scottish Officer", followed by a spit on the carpet.

(AKA Fred the shred, the banker that is)

The Ancient Mariner

500N as your in OZ, it refers to the RBS banking scandal

Alber Ratman 22nd Apr 2013 19:31

Happy with that. A very worthy choice.:ok:

Rossian

Thanks. I'd forgotten about that scandal but didn't know he had a rank.

at least it was eventually removed along with his knighthood
Should've been court-martialled for bringing the service into disrepute.

Good move by the Cadets - will help raise the profile of the outfit:ok:

I suppose that a lycra fetishist is as good a choice as any. :\

Apart from Royalty, who else has honorary rank?

I know of a handful:

Richie McCaw - All Blacks Captain - honorary Sqn Ldr in RNZAF, thoroughly deserved and especially as he is also a keen glider pilot.

Ellen McArthur - honorary Lt Cdr in RN, and thoroughly deserved as she is tough as boots and a legendary sailor

Bear Grylls - honorary Lt Cdr RN, though should be honorary Colonel of 49 Para.

Anybody know of others?

Al R 23rd Apr 2013 06:20

Bear had to apologise after it was revealed that he stayed in a nice hotel instead of roughing it in the field. HAC would seem to fit perfectly then. ;)

I went to a pitch fronted by him a few years ago. Rubbish investment (I was right as it turned out; it still hasn't got anywhere) but a decent bloke (21 SAS background etc).

Good for Sir Chris.

Ah Leander!!

I along with many other Navy persons have spent very pleasant, drunken and lecherous hours on board her, drinking his Leander pink champagne and perving at the young lady crew in their translucent shorts and thongs......

Donald, a prince among men!

Given his father-in-law is a group captain, I guess a few strings were pulled!
